Too much of a good thing is obviously bad. Just this past week Miss Tiggy has decided that she should come EVERYWHERE with me! In order to try and "make it so" Tiggy is running through the baby gate (Wayne leaves it open all the time) and standing in the corridor half way down to the front door. She will not come back. She knows "on your bed" but she has decided that its not worth it even for a biscuit as she is determined to come with me. This morning I decided enough was enough. I left her in the corridor and went out the back door and walked round the house to get to the car. Only problem with that tactic is she was joyfully waiting right inside the front door for me when I got home. So now its going to have to be wait in your bed to get your collar and leash on before you go anywhere. Somewhat of a nuisance as I KNOW Wayne won't bother. Just when I think she's grown up and responsible she reverts. And she's too smart, I seem to play catch up with her tricks on a regular basis. By the way Tiggy has her own take on this situation. http://tiggy-tigster.blogspot.com/2010/10/i-need-job.html |

It sounds like you have a smart dog and she's figured out your routine. Maybe if you make her sit stay before you grab your shoes/purse that would help. My dog has a similar issue with barking when I'm getting ready to leave, the only thing that seems to improve the barking is if we have another person enforce the "no, be quiet" command. Perhaps you could have another person enforce a sit/stay while you practice leaving the house? |
Oh Boy do we understand the teenage naughties! My female, Bella, is now 2 years and 3 months. She is what I may describe as a "handful". She's been going to training classes every week since she was a baby and suddenly, she knows nothing! She still does come wehn called but has forgotten the sit/stay and most other basic commands. She is in my face constantly... licking me and pawing at me to play....all she wants to do is play fetch with her ball...But I might add, she is totally cute! I remember my very first sheepdog. He was a "puppy" until he was about 13 years old. Then, he suddenly got old and passed away at 14 and a half. It broke my heart and I might add, the time went so fast. I promised myself I will enjoy the dogs, through the annoying naughties, for the really short time they are with us. There will come a time when we miss that naughty behavior... |
I read Tiggy's side, and I'm with her on this one, sorry |
Yeah, but then I think we'd all like a job that involved car rides and Italian pastries. |

After lots of training, well maybe its lots of bribes, I'm putting treats in Tiggy's bed when I call her! she's getting better. Not perfect but better. |

Tried it.....doesn't work. |
Yeah definitely doesnt work!! Tiggy has reverted again, she was just plain norty today and couldn't be bothered to sit. Once she lay down when I asked for a sit but the rest I had to really insist. What's going on she's must be in the terrible teens. |
Well it wouldn't be our Tiggy gerl if she was totally biddable. That is why we love her so much. Good luck Mim - I have one that likes to throw training out the window and thinks he knows best too. |
I wasn't real good thru the teens either. At least with OES it doesn't last 6-8 or so years! Tigs will come around........someday. |
