My sheepie was exposed to Parvo!

My dog came into contact with a puppy that just died of Parvo. It has been in my yard and even went potty there, too. My Annie is 11 mos old and has all of her shots. Her last set was at 5 mos 25 days. Her vet says not to worry, but I can't help but worry! The puppy was happy and healthy on Tuesday and dead on Wednesday! Is my vet correct that I have nothing to worry about?!?!

I'm very sorry for the loss of the puppy. Of course you'll worry but you've done all you can to protect your girl with all her puppy shots. Chances are, her vaccinations should protect her. There is always a slight chance that a dog might not build immunity despite puppy shots. Keep close watch on her... if anything seems off, I'd get her to the vet quickly to be checked over.

Thoroughly clean up poo in the yard. Personally, I would not invite any other dogs over for several months if the infected puppy pooped there. Definitely not any puppies, old dogs, unvaccinated dogs or dogs with a challenged immune system. The Parvo virus is said to live in the soil for many months.

Here's an good article on Parvo- http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm ... 02&aid=467
Hoping this will all end up being a non-issue for you and your baby.
Thanks!

I am watching Annie like a hawk! I have poured bleach on the area of the yard where I *think* the puppy did its business. Unfortunately, the little guy was out wandering in our neighborhood because his owners did not properly secure their gate. She did not want to eat today and of course I was a nervous wreck! I put a tablespoon of plain yogurt on her food and then she gobbled it down. The vet told me several times not to worry, but easier said than done!

Hi Lisa absolutely normal to worry I would too.

As Jaci said keep a close eye on your oes. If any signs of vomitting or diarreah then off to the vets or even any signs of not normal demeanor/personality.

With the jabs for parvo it does not stop them getting it, it just makes the condition not so bad.

So yes do keep your fuzz ball monitored and if in doubt off to the vets for advice and help. And yes when she poos, pick up and dispose of straight away and douse the area in bleach and water just to be on the safe side for awhile.
Thanks LisaOES!

The last time she was around the puppy was Tuesday and now I'm just waiting see if the virus pops up. I guess I should know by next week? :| My vet said giving another Parvo shot now is pretty much useless.
