It happened again today. All the same things. He was in the hallway and I was laying in bed and suddenly he yelped and flew into the bedroom, onto the bed and had his "hold me mommy, it hurts" look. Then the "smell" hit me. The last few days I have noticed that Simon will suddenly lay down and go for his back end. I was waiting for yelps but none came. Then today happened and it started me thinking My theory: His anal glands are getting stopped up and then suddenly release which maybe causes pain, hence the yelp, sending pain down, the holding up up his rear paw, and then the "smell". Again its just a theory, I will ask my vet next time I see him but what you think? Is it possible? |

Maybe. If he's going for his back end, it could be that his anal glands are full or that there's a problem there. I'm not sure the pain would travel down to his foot but stranger things have happened. On the other hand, if he's hit with an unexpected pain, it could scare him enough to cause him to empty his anal glands or the fast movement could too. I've seen dogs try to get away from pain before... they don't know what is making it hurt so they run away from it and seek comfort/reassurance from us. I hope you can find the cause. |
[quote="6Girls"]On the other hand, if he's hit with an unexpected pain, it could scare him enough to cause him to empty his anal glands quote] That is a good point. One time a few years ago when Murphy was hurt bad at the park by another dog (Murphy didn't see it coming) he emptied his glands. |
