Sometime you get what you asked for...

and its not what you want.

Both boys went to the groomer today. Dh dropped them off with pictures and written instructions on how I wanted them to look.

They called me at work(with my permission) to check to make sure that my instruction were right. I asked that there bellies and beards be shaved with a #10 blade. Both to keep them cool and because I hate drippy beards. Cutting the muzzle hair to lip level. I wanted the head to be shorter so that the hair did not part in the middle. This involves cutting the hair to about 1-1/2". The rest of the hair on the body is about 2" long and keep it like that. Underline and in caps-DO NOT SHAVE BETWEEN THE EYES AND THE TOP OF THE MUZZLE!

So I pick them up and its hard to get a good look because they are nuts to see me. Get home and get a good look. They look like dorks....little heads and big bodies. This might be because I'm used to seeing them with big shaggy heads and because its new.

I'm sure this will take some getting used to. I don't want my dogs to look dorky. We are going to Sheepiefest on Saturday and I wanted them clean and fresh looking. So now they are clean, fresh, and dorky looking :?

Oh Pam....    :(

I hate my guys to look dorky too!

A picture??

So many are left w/ huge heads and short bodies, and I don't like that look. I'd like to see the reverse.
Photos please!!!! :)
The best thing is that it always grows back.

As for the play date, you are really close to Halloween so embrace the dorklette look and add festive scarves or other suitable neckware. You could even add some spray in color since there is so much of it available in the drugstores right now. The zebra look goes a long way! :go:

One of the things I find is that if I let them grow out longer than usual, I have the opportunity to reshape them into a more flattering form than they had when I was trimming regularly. I still bathe once a week for the one in show coat and the others get a bath once every month. But sometimes you are better off to opt for the "bath and brush" package instead of trimming.

I am not certain, but have you asked for "Puppy cuts" or "Teddy Bear" cuts on them? Sometimes this will help a groomer understand the look you are going for.

Of course, I started trimming my dogs myself a year ago, so while I sometimes end up with disastrous results, I only have myself to blame. And I chalk that up to the learning curve. And like my own hair... within 3 weeks it looks much better!

Good luck!
Oh I feel for you! :x
let's see da dorks 8O
betcha we luv em no matter :clappurple:
Dang, I hate the fresh from the groomer look. I feel your pain. Every time I can hardly wait till her fur grows out, and find myself saying to people "she has a really bad furcut right now, she usually looks much better".

We had the opposite of your experience always happening, that they would cut her body way too short, and then give her a really long Wheaton Terrier-esque muzzle like this http://www.jklgrooming.com/Images06/Pho ... rier_2.jpg

But they'd always leave her ear fur really long, so she also looked like the Luck Dragon from Never Ending story. http://cinefantastiqueonline.com/wp-con ... falkor.jpg

We finally just started trimming her face and ears ourselves, but it's the trickiest part to do! Lots of screw ups, lots of "well, she doesn't stand still for very long anyway, no one will notice that it's not even". Sigh.

One time, they cut the top of her head fur in such a way, that she looked like she had the same hair cut as our Pastor, who's name is Tom. We laughed for weeks until it grew out; when she'd come around a corner we'd say "Hi Tom!" and just bust a gut laughing. We should have gotten a picture of her with him, just for us to giggle at. Poor Sunny. Poor Tom!

What kind of tools do you use? Specifically, what brand of clippers? I want to start trimming Sunny at home. Oh the fur will fly, that's for sure! But I gotta get her trimmed before the snow flies and I can still do it outside!
Aweee... that absolutely kills me too. Hope we get a pic. I always get used to the cut by the end of the week!!!

I use an Oster Turbo with a 3F blade for the body. I also use 7F and 10F blades for the belly. I scissor the head. I use a pair of curved 7" shears and a few pairs of thinning shears: a 40 tooth and some coarser pairs. I prefer a shaggy look.
