BASIC RECIPE: 1 pint white vinegar (dogs need a lower pH shampoo than people) 1 pint liquid hand soap (I buy half-gallon refill bottles from Costco... mild lavender scent and inexpensive) 1 pint water 3-4 oz glycerin (can buy small bottles at any pharmacy or larger quantities on-line for very little) This makes a fairly dilute shampoo that lathers up easily and washes out completely. The glycerin in the recipe leaves their coats smooth, shining and tangle-free and I know exactly what is going on the boys. The vinegar has a slight scent when lathering up the dog (but not afterward) so I am contemplating using a dilute citric acid solution in the future if I can get some pH test strips to make sure the result is the same as with vinegar. I have read you can add a small amount of essential oils like tea tree or lavender oil but I have not done so. |
