Home made shampoo

With two OES at home for most of my life I have spent a small fortune on pet shampoos over the years. The pet and feed stores nearby seem to only carry small bottles that get used up quickly on two big sheepies so I've usually ordered gallon bottles on line and been paying $25-$50. This summer I tried making my own shampoo for the first time and am convinced that this is the way to go.

BASIC RECIPE:
1 pint white vinegar (dogs need a lower pH shampoo than people)
1 pint liquid hand soap (I buy half-gallon refill bottles from Costco... mild lavender scent and inexpensive)
1 pint water
3-4 oz glycerin (can buy small bottles at any pharmacy or larger quantities on-line for very little)

This makes a fairly dilute shampoo that lathers up easily and washes out completely. The glycerin in the recipe leaves their coats smooth, shining and tangle-free and I know exactly what is going on the boys. The vinegar has a slight scent when lathering up the dog (but not afterward) so I am contemplating using a dilute citric acid solution in the future if I can get some pH test strips to make sure the result is the same as with vinegar. I have read you can add a small amount of essential oils like tea tree or lavender oil but I have not done so.
