So, are there any rules to help keep continuity? All of the lights will be oil rubbed bronze to match the latches on the windows. In the places that don't matter as much to me will be the same simple light fixture that will resemble some of the ones we took out during the interior house demolition. So I guess one of my questions is...do I have the stairway light match more of what will be the downstairs lighting decor or do I have it more match the upstairs lighting decor? The upstairs bedroom will need two bedside wall lights along with a main ceiling light. Since I can't find a series that I like all the pieces of (or even has all the pieces I need) do they need to be similar feeling? Is it okay for the bedroom and entertainment room to have their own feel in lighting or does the whole upstairs need to have a somewhat matched feel? Maybe the question should be, what rooms do you keep more matched and what rooms does it not matter as much? |

I didn't realize there was out-house lighting decor? |

DOHHHHHH!!! I can't believe that I said that. I don't suppose someone wants to take pity on me and correct that. |
Not really! LOL Do I have to? (Must be why "there are so many stinking choices"!!!!! *snicker*) |
GROAN. **hehehe** |
This is actually the bedroom ceiling light that we really like. http://www.lampsplus.com/products/Beaco ... F3376.html For the bedside lights we can't quite decide what will look good with it. We were thinking along the lines of the next couple... http://www.lightinguniverse.com/wall-sc ... sku=962587 http://www.affordablelamps.com/tro-b2301ab.html http://www.hudsonvalleylighting.com/pro ... ItemID=111 I could do this one in the stairway and it would kinda go with the second light in the bedside light list... But there are a lot of different lights I could do in the stairway depending on whether we are trying to match upstairs or downstairs. http://www.lightinguniverse.com/large-p ... ku=3679310 I haven't got one picked out for the entertainment room yet. We keep picking out lights for the entire upstairs and putting them together and then changing our minds. Probably because there are a lot of lights that we wouldn't mind having but not as many that make us stop and do a double take in how much we like it. That and of course sometimes the price comes into play. In the bedroom there will be 6 lights counting the recessed lighting. So we are trying to keep the bedside lights under $200 (that meant a few cool ones had to go). But who knows, if we can't decide then maybe they will come back on the list. |
I like your selections. Personally I like the first one of the 3 bedroom lights but I'm not sure if it goes with the others. I just don't like #2 and #3. I assume you'll be able to use the funny screwy light bulbs in these? I was going to suggest going with the Prairie style lighting until I saw your selections. I think you are on the right track. |
These are my thoughts: I think if you can see a lot of the stairway light from downstairs then I would have it match (or be complementary). If you can't really see much of it from the downstairs, then make it the style you want the upstairs to be. I don't think all the lights upstairs have to match (as in, the entertainment room, bath, bedroom). It might be good to have something that isn't TOO different from each other (like a crystal chandelier in one room and a craftsman light in another. BUT, if you are doing individual rooms that have doors, then I don't think it's all that bad to have different looks in each room. As long as you like it, go for it! As for the bedroom lights, I like your ceiling light and I like choice #1. I think it goes the best with the ceiling light. How fun! I love decorating. |
Thanks for both of your comments. I've stopped looking at lights for the last two days as I needed a break. hehehe. The stairway light won't really be seen much from the first floor with how the house is laid out. I was kinda thinking that I would make the light match the upstairs but then I start doubting myself and I didn't know which was the best way to go. The three rooms upstairs will all have doors so I guess that will make picking things out a little easier. I say that but it doesn't seem that it is. I'm never 100% sure once I pick a light out whether it goes with the others. Maybe it's a certain amount of preference/matching so it's more of an individual thing??? I just want to get it so we love the lights and the house feels put together and not jarring (like someone spun a wheel and picked out random stuff). |
Love your first choice as well!!!!! I like the last link too!! As long you don't choose lamps that looks like a single boob - you should be ok:):) |
Ditto on the 1st one. |
