OCD and agiility

Most of you know that Gigi had OCD on both shoulders and had the surgery when she was 6 or 7 months old. She will be two at the end of January. We have been doing agility ---- no high jumps, low table, slow approaches and not hitting anything hard. She is really just learning slowly and carefully. The teacher is well aware of her surgery. My question is --- will we always have to be careful with her? she does run around the yard without difficulty and abuses Bogey. I walk them both everyday also - seems not to be a problem. CAN OCD RETURN? I am also aware that she is still growing so we are careful for that reason also.
I am going to call the surgeon and ask him. however, I know you are so knowledgable, so i thought i would check here also. Oh I know a worried mom...

Your pretty safe there as she is well past the rapid growth stage in the bones being nearly 2, OCD is just offending cartiledge, either a flap or loose piece that can happen in the joints while in that rapid growth stage. After surgery and developement no it wont re-occur.

You should be pretty safe now to enjoy the agility with her but yes do start off slow with the jumps as she is still developing in the body but as far as the OCD is concerned that hits this breed around 6-12 months as they go up in leg and grow at all sorts of awkward/gawky growth spurts and most OCD cases are evident in that period.

No does not re-occur, I would be more worried about HD then corrective surgery for OCD and performance hobbies. Have you also had her hips done? Doing agility she is at a good age to assess them so you know the jumps and performance side of things are all good for her if the hips are fairly sound.

You have another year of filling out that is developing more muscle wise, head still spreading but as far as the boning most of that is finished, I always say an OES is fully mature at 3 onwards, that is both in body and coats, but as far as the OCD is concerned you are over the worse there and again no problems with it ever happening again.
Frankie had his left shoulder done in February, and we no longer have any restrictions. He even has it in his right shoulder but it doesn't bother him at all. I do know that it can go away with age.

Thanks Lise . I feel better. Still will keep her limited but continue with agility. She loves it! Takes a bow after she completes an obstacle. so funny.
