The very last thing we (Simon and I) did was the weaves with wires. Sue put the wires on to see how he was coming along. On purpose she left one wire off in the middle. He went through and broke out where the wire was missing. I took him back to the beginning and started again and he went all the way through. I got some great advice from someone in class tonight. Do what Sue did, remove a wire. Once he's done that a few times, replace that wire and remove a different one. Run him through. Replace and remove a different one and leave it off(for good). Repeat all the above steps until all the wires are gone. It sounds easy but it will take me about two weeks or more of daily practice to get all the wires off...if things go well. Wish us luck!!! |

I did something similar - but removed them one at a time until just the entrance and exit wires were left. It took a bit of more intense practice, but it really wasn't too much longer until the last ones were off. Now our issue is just to get a bit of speed going through them! Good job with Simon. The weaves just seem to take a lot of repetion and reward to get them reliably mastered. |
Pam, I think no matter what method you use (we used the channel method with wires) it takes 2-3 weeks of doing it a little every day slowly weaning them off their training crutches (wires, channel). The weaves are just one of those things that you aren't mastered fast and the way you are describing is about as fast as you can expect to learn it. Good job Pam. Have fun Simon. |
