Sure, it'll be fine. He'll have a couple of inches of hair back by the end of the year and, in the meantime, you could get him a little sweater or jacket if he has to go out when it's cool in the morning or at night if he seems cold. I shaved my youngest one down last year at this time and he never seemed to even notice. We didn't do anything different for him. Unless he's matted to the skin, you don't have to shave him to the skin either. Ask the groomer if she can use a #4 or #3 3/4. It'll take longer and may cost you a little more but you'll get to keep about 1/2" to 3/4" of hair. This was what Owen looked like after his shave with a #4 last year. |
We live in Northern Illinois and Oscar is kept shaved year round, with no trouble whatsoever. Oscar runs hot, so, even shaved, he likes to lay out in the snow. He would absolutely die of heat stroke in a coat! Laurie and Oscar |
I shaved coal and maddy this year in january. the next day it snowed.had to bribe coal to get him to come inside. maddy well she never wants to go out anyway. cher |
We keep ours in a puppy cut all year and no problems with the cold. We live in NY and the winters are COLD! Unless you are keeping your dog out for extended periods of time, or if they live outside which I would hope they are not, short hair is fine. And shorter hair is great for controlling the "hair snowballs" from the snow |
Thank you guys! Took him in this morning and they told me that he would have to be shaved. He was matted in places I didn't even know. They agreed it was because of the puppy hair and said that he would be shaved close but they were going to save the top knot ,. I hope he won't be to embarressed when we pick him up,LOL . Tues. he goes in for his snipping of his man parts so this was a good time to get him shaved I guess. |
