I had no IDEA how conflicting my body movements were to my girl. My instructor was so good, she was showing me that every time I was sending Asterisk, I was telling her to run into me or to stop and not progress. Ugh, so embarrassed! I really hope I can learn better, because she knows what she's doing. Anyway, one of our excersizes for this weeks homework is working on sending our dogs with back crosses, left and right rounding, and so on. So I need to make at least one jump. She gave us instruction on how to make our own with PVC piping and it looks fairly easy. Does anyone know if there are other agility equipment you can make yourself? I'd LOVE to be able to buy everything! But my yard is small and - WOW - some of that equipment is pricey! |

I went this route - 4 simple jumps for $90. And they last - they were frozen in the snow/ice all last winter (I was delusional that I would get out and practice, and we had the most snow in like 10 years!!) Mine are 3 yrs old and still perfect. http://www.affordableagility.com/traveljumpset.htm and the bag they come in is nicer than the one pictured - worth half the money! I ended up buying 2 sets - here they are in my yard and the tire jump is from them too - the practice tire. |
Dawn; i got the exact same stuff from affordable agility! The jumps are great! |
Worst case quick fix before next class: A broom stick across two buckets Yes, that was Belle's first "agility" jump. Feeling discombobulated as a handler is normal. I still do. Just less so. Not realizing you're the one who's the problem, THAT'S the real crime. You'll get there. Just keep plugging. But, yes, home work is essential. Doesn't have to be fancy. KB |
Woo Hoo!! Erin, join the club, I dont feel so uselessly alone now. Three instuctors have very kindly informed me that Tiggy knows more about agility than I do. The latest doesnt mince his words, so he added that I am a sloppy handler. I am going to try and organise a couple of private lessons for me, NOT Tiggy!! |
DH is now in the process of making me three new jumps and a wait table. He made the teter out of pvc and the jumps and table will be out of the same thing. I'm hoping he will get them done by the time I'm no longer on restrictions and its not yet snowing |

And when it does start snowing, know that a basenji breeder friend and I rent Sue's place periodically for practice purposes. I don't have Dazz in a class yet so it's the only way I can really work with her except in the back yard and I don't have an a-frame. Heading down to WAG for agility run-thrus. Let me know when you're back in business and I'll send you the upcoming run-thru info. There will be another at WAG in November before their novice only trial, and Forward Motion in Kansasville have started theirs back up, they're usually once a month. We need to get you up to speed so you can enter Hounds with Sun and I. Feel better soon! Kristine |
