Bewitching hour?

Every night, at about 7 or 8 pm, my younger dog ( she is 2 ) gets crazy and running around and barking and what a pest she becomes! We take her out and she runs crazy! I know about the FRAPs...but isn't she too old for that? By the way, she gets alot of exercise. Every day she gets about half an hour at lunch time and then about an hour at least before dinner. And I mean running! Chasing her older brother around the yard, some obedience training, some ball throwing...then at about 8ish she still wants to do crazy dog!

Gigi does something very similar at the same time. I was wondering if it was like a baby being overtired.
This too passes with age. In mean time your may be wanting to change the name to
Wee-Bitching Hour.
Chowder started the same thing at 6 months old but we do not have a fenced in yard so she would run to the end of the leash then in another direction to the end and so forth and so on.

We went back to obedience training and we walk her more. We were doing 45 min twice and day and an hour once a day plus one or two short 10-15. The obedience training wore her out, so did going to dog park or doggie day care more. So we found it to be an exercise thing.
I know they do it when pups but mine is 2 years old! 8O 8O Thankfuly we have a large fenced in yard...She is so immature next to my male..I never had a female dog. Are they usually more immature? I always thought females matured quicker than males :?:
Frankie gets the zoomies at night. (Thats what we call them) Especially when he comes home from physical therapy. We all say just add water. (like a gremlin.)

I keep saying I can't wait until he grows up he just turned 17 mos.
It really scares me sometimes because of his bad joints.

Lisa and Frankie
zoomies aren't over at 2 and in sheepies can last much longer. :cow:
Bassets get them too.
My foster Harley is 12.5 years old and he still goes crazy a few times a week....in the evening as well. This guy is a sr. citizen and on meds for his arthritis too....... :cow:
Good going Harley!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
Tripper the basset who is 11 and Butch who will be 1 in a few days have the zoomies a few times a day most days. The basset can go pretty good.
Heart does the spazzing out thingy too ....at about 7 pm..then after she calms down. she will lay by me and cry/sigh and kind of moan.. and since I am fluent in dogtalk, means....
""""ok...now I am tired AND board, you need to pay attention to me or I wil continue to do this and drive you and everyone around me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! :twitch: :twitch: """""
i hold my breath evey nite around 7pm dreamer and duffy will go out and just walk around and then all of a sudden it is crazy they run around my van and jump over these curbs i know one day one will trip .. i tryed to stop them but when a sheepie is in a zone might as well be yelling to the wall
Some elderly humans get what is refered to as sun-downer's syndrome. They become confused and more aggitated at night.
I'm convinced it's the twilight hours that triggers the sheepie FRAPS. As Chauncey has gotten older the number of incidences has decreased, and I've started to actually enjoy them and often join in
Chewie does the same we call him Cujo at the time. 9:30 pm sharp it is so embarrassing I will be walking him and telling people how wonderful he is and 9:30 comes along and I have a 60 lb puppy jumping up at his leash pullling and the antics go on. He is great except at 9:30 pm you don't need a watch...

Sometimes he will pull on his leash to go to his bathroom spots on our walks but that is so different then the cujo hour.

We now try to avoid walks at 9:30 pm and just go in our own yard then and then he can go crazy running in figure 8's. Good thing we have a big backyard.

Otherwise he is great! he loves meeting people and only barks in the house when we have people he can't come and meet (like yesterday someone just finished digging in dirt and eating dirt... like we don't feed him... pfft. and our insurance guy came over all dressed nice, didn't think he would want to be all muddy. Both the insurance guy and Chewie were disappointed.)

Reading this post with interest...but what are FRAPS?
FRAPS was a term used to describe this crazy racing around at night puppies do. Its short for something scientific but I forget what? Help with this. I know this has been on the Board before...

Okay. I found it...Frenitic Random Activity Period...
thanks diane,
that's much better than what i made up.
Freakin Racing Around Pups
Mahalo! (Thanks in Hawaiian since Matilda lives on Kauai)....but what if her owner is ALWAYS having FRAPS!!??
Since Matilda lives on Kauai, you might enjoy reading The Incredible Story of Winston.

Be sure to click on "Next Photo" to go to the next part when you get to the bottom of each page. The story is just three pages long.
Same thing here with sunny. I've heard of lots of other breeds doing it too. Sunny usually needs a good tussle with one of us, a tummy rub, and a snack. Then she has a nap and is ok. It's like when a toddler gets tired/cranky and just starts to spin out of control. Actually my 20 month old does the same thing around 5:30 every day. She needs the same thing- attention, food, then bed.

Sam started doing this from day 1 (we call them the willies!) Now that Nola has settled in and getting more comfortable she is doing it too! At least now they can run around crazy together. Too bad I don't have a backyard cuz this can get pretty crazy sometimes! :excited:
Lucily we have a fenced in yard...Before it was fenced, everyone in the house would yell out"Watch Out! Crazy Dog" as they went tearing butt around the house! We ahve since gotten a fence and removed all breakables from low lying tables
Mahalo for the story of Winston, the only other OES I've even heard of in the whole State of Hawaii. I looked high and low for other OES so that I might be able to get my OES here. But I ended up going to Australia to get Matilda. That way the horribly, lengthy quarantine for the State of Hawaii could be avoided (since Australia, Guam, New Zealand and The British Isles are also rabies free). Found a wonderful breeder and now we have a fabulous pup. You can read about her exploits in her blog https://alohamatilda.blogspot.com
