Bringing my Puppy Home

I'm going to be picking up my new OES puppy at the end of this week. I've got my apartment prepared and a bunch of toys ready for the puppy but I'm a little concerned about the ride home though. It looks like I'm going to have to make the 2 hour trip home from the breeder by myself. Any recommendations on how I should transport my puppy? Unfortunately I have a small car and the crate I purchased won't fit in it and I don't really want to buy a small crate just for a few uses while the puppy is small.

I was thinking about lining a laundry hamper with some towels and a soft blanket. I could put the puppy in there with a toy or two and hopefully keep her occupied for the ride home. Any better ideas? Anything else I should be worried about?

I'm also still trying to finalize a name for my puppy. So any good female dog names would be appreciated. :) Also, this site has been an invaluable resource over the last couple of months. Thanks everybody!

I would definitely either buy or borrow a crate that will fit in your vehicle. You can always sell it after the pup outgrows it and a smaller crate can be useful for crate training while the pup is small.
A laundry hamper won't hold a rambunctious or anxious puppy, and you'll be busy driving.

Good luck with your pup and welcome to the forum! :)
I agree; get the small crate. You can use it for initial vet visits. Your vet's office is going to have alot of germs from other sick patients; why not bring your pup in in her fancy new crate for the first round of shots? Then you can either sell it on Craigs list, or donate it to your local animal shelter or rescue.

OR; do you have any friends with cats? I used my cat carrier for that ride home (I have 2 huge cats). Just make sure you clean it out thoroughly before you put your pup in it, and again before you return it to who ever you borrow it from!
Exciting time, if you cant borrow a small crate to transport home see if you can get a friend to go with you to drive back or that way someone on the back seat can nurse & supervise the pupper home. A little soft puppy collar and lead on with supervision in the back seat. Also then you are ready for a potty stop on the 2 hour trip home also.

Take some towels, water bowl and a bottle full of water so firstly a little drink when you stop and secondly in case of car sick you can have her on the towels on the back seat just in case and also wet a corner of the towel to clean up pupper if car sickies happen. Plastic bag handy too just in case to put any soiled towel in so it does not stink the car out  And poopie bags for the potty stops just in case. I always suggest also some baby powder just to freshen them up in case of something happening on the way home, a sickie, a sloppy poopie sprinkle on and take a little brush to brush it out that way just in case and you still have a trip ahead of you home the puppy still smells sweet for the rest of the journey home. 8)

Best wishes with your new baby girl, lots of pretty girly names around, wait and see what her personality is like to name her. :D I did firstly I had a name picked out and when I got her home we changed it. 8)
