swimming

Do OES like to swim? We would like to get one but spend a lot of time at our lake. We love to watch our dog swim and would like another swimmer....

My OES loves to splash about in the water. She swims, but pefers to splash and jump and so forth. I have heard that the heaviness of the coat makes it difficult to swim when it gets wet, but I haven't observed this. My parents have a Newfoundland...boy is that a dog that loves the water and sure can swim.
Lennon did try swimming once, he decided the ducks he was chasing were not to go away so he jumped into the lake. Seems that the experience was not fun, bacuase he hasn't done it again. He loves splashing on a kiddie pool and run abot the sprinklers whenever there's a chance, so maybe it's just swimming but not water he dislikes.
My sheepie loves to swim - it actually became problematic because my mother has a built in pool and we couldn't keep him out of it. But the strange thing was he would only go in by the ladder so we just blocked it off to keep him out.
My yard in connected to a golf course, the 9th hole which has a large pond. Phoebe is so bad in the summer she has to have someone with her at all times outside. As soon as she see's the ice has melted she is off to the water. The bredder told me water would be a problem since OES love it. Enjoy the lake with your new puppy
One of our sheepies LOVED the garden hose! If you go to a lake, you may want to buy one of those life jackets just in case. :D
Clyde is the saddest swimmer I've ever seen. He does more splashing than swimming but he'll try to follow me so he wears himself out. I ended up towing him in myself last year because I was afraid he was going to collapse!
The 12 week old puppy that I was fostering LOVED to swim.. couldn't take her to the park without her going in the water. Which freaked me out, as my 2 dogs won't go in the water unless you throw a Timbit out for them. Sadie (the foster), just calmly walked in and started swimming.. I thought oh great.. i'm gonna have to go in for her.. but nope.. she was a champion at it..

Good thing, as her new home is on a lake, and it's been reported that she is in the water every day.
Panda HATES the pool..she sinks like a rock, comes up and panics.....but the ocean....she LOVES...and she loves the hose too....
Our Winston jumped off the dock into the lake at around six months old. He saw our neighbor's dog and decided he wanted to meet him. It was early spring and the ice had just melted off the lake. Winston took a dive and I thought I'd have to go in after him. He paddled around like he'd done it forever.

Any time Winston was "missing", all we had to do was look in the lake and there he'd be. We got a kiddie pool for him but he laid in it continually and he wasn't very pleasant to be around. Old Winston swam like Mark Spitz until he passed away at almost 14 years of age.

Maggie won't go near any water. Barely will drink out of her bowl.

Nelson Jr. was in the lake some last summer but he was just a baby then. Didn't really get to see what he would do. I don't expect him to be the swimmer that Winston was but we know he really loves to splash in the ocean!
Pepsi does not like the pool.
We are waiting for the pool temps to get a little warmer to get Rags in.
Hopefully she will like it and swim. I am 100% sure if Rags does it....Pepsi will too
Swimming is one of Drez's favorite things to do! :go: We have to watch her when we take the cover off the pool because she's right there ready to jump in.

She's only allowed to go/out in at the steps. She "herds" everyone in the pool. It's so funny to watch! She'll swim around people to get them to move closer to the steps.

For a dog with hip problems, this is a GREAT form of exercise!
My Max...all 130 pounds.....LOVES to swim....he looks like a polar bear does when they swim....very graceful.
This is all good to know - Walter and I plan to spend a good deal of time at the beach this summer too. He tried swimming in the lake once, but i think he got too distracted by all the dead fish on shore - he kept going after them, so I never really got to see if he could / liked to "swim"
He sure does love the hose though. I'll have to try the kiddie pool thing this summer when it gets hot.

OOH - how about a slip and slide? That could be really fun to watch!!
