Hi! It really varies. From breed to breed and within breeds. Mine are late bloomers. The youngest two came in for the first time at a year old. I think six months is more for toy breeds, though some OES may come in that early. Too, I think one of the reasons six months old sticks in people's minds is because for years vets have recommended you spay (and neuter) by six months old. For girls that's sort of a general rule of thumb for performing the surgery before they ever come into season, which probably works timing wise for most dogs, but an OES is still just a baby at that age and ten mos old is nothing to worry about it my book, at least. If they haven't come in by 18 mos old, OK, then I'd worry. Kristine |
Thank you so much Kristine! I had thought maybe it was because sheepies just don't seem to mature as quickly as other breeds, but wanted to make sure I didn't need to be concerned. From some of the things I've read their personalities change when they are in season so I'm not looking forward to it as I love her bouncy, bubbly, clown personality. Thanks again! Cindy |
