I actually just went through the same thing when we brought Clyde in. Lucy is an 8 year old Bearded Collie/Briard mix, relatively large, always the only child and pretty spoiled. She too is a very relaxed dog but never a fan of other dogs. I'd like to say that we did something special but we brought Clyde home and just made sure to pay even more attention to Lucy for awhile. She did a lot of sniffing of him and, because he's a puppy, he tolerated that well so she was satisfied. She had a hard time getting used to the constant demand for play but she lets him know when she's had enough. Be prepared for CONSTANT play though. It's never quiet anymore! However, much of the reason we chose Clyde was for his size and demeanor-- since we knew he'd be able to handle himself a little better and Lucy wouldn't see him as a chew toy. A small dog might be different since their personalities are soo different. |
Butterscotch is adorable!!!!!!! One thing I have done already is make sure I have bought some "new" toys for Tasker to give him when the pup arrives. I may be NUTS but the new pup is a veeeeery small dog....... over the holidays my daughter visited with a Jack Russell puppy and Tasker did very well with him. So HOPEFULLY he won't think the new pup is a CHEW TOY!!!! But I do plan to keep the new pup crated when I'm not directly supervising the! |
