Ouch! That doesn't sound like fun. Glad it's not interferring with her enjoyment of food or treats though. That said, I think it's probably worth a non-emergency trip to the vet rather than self-medicating on a hunch. A friend's rescue dog has allergies and rubs her muzzle raw periodically. That kind of rubbing can easily result in a staph infection and, yes, cephalexin does seem to be the antibiotic of choice for skin infections, but....? It's probably nothing, but a vet can look inside her mouth and make sure there's nothing else brewing. best, Kristine |
I also would not sself medicate without a bvet seeing her first. Giving too many antibiotics can cause them to become resistant and when you really need one they won't work. Also, they can sometimes upset the stomach giving you further issues. Perhaps a salve of some sort will help. But I agree, the vet should take a look to make sure something didn't cut her on the inside. |
I wonder if she has an infected tooth. That may cause the puss colored drool, the drooling, and the rubbing. I agree, take her to the vet. |
I was thinking the same thing about a possible tooth infection. Even if it starts in the lip it could move to the gums or tooth. Better have the vet check it out to be safe. |
