No one gave any instructions, just here are the keys see you later. I got in the car ok and then came the problem. My Mazda has a flick out key. I press a button in the remote unlocker and the metal key part flicks out of the holder kinda like a switch blade. I couldnt find the button on the Prius key and neither could my work colleague. We had to get the instruction book out and read it to discover that the plastic square IS the key. Push it in the slot on the dash then press a button on the dash and the car starts. OK we are all go now, except why is the car slow and why is it beeping at me. Hang on that red symbol on the dash is the park break signal. So release the park brake, should be easy. What the??? Where is the park brake? Pull over in the car park, get the book out again. Oh my, there's a pedal on the floor beside where the clutch would be that is the park brake. Finally we got going!!! I HATE it when a car is smarter than me. |

lol ...I hate when I have to drive my husband's vehicle. I always reach for the park break and it up just getting air since there's nothing there to pull. Thankfully you didn't need gas or need to lift the hood. That seems to be the hardest for me. In my car, NO ONE can find it!!! NO ONE!!! |
I have a Prius so I'm used to all it's features, and I LOVE them. As for the "key" - it has some pretty neat features. As long as the key is on you or in your purse (just in the vicinity of the car), you don't have to use it at all! Door locked? No problem - just go to open the door as if it were unlocked. It senses the key and releases the lock. Once in the car, even if the key is not in the slot, just step on the brake and press the On button - viola! Now I don't have to worry about losing my keys, because they never leave my purse. My husband has a Camry and his operates the same way. Way cool! Of course, HE still loses his keys because he puts them down somewhere new every time! |
That happened to my client's wife - that key totally freaked her out! Their van was in the shop and she borrowed her boss's car. She had no clue how to make it run.....but then she got a quick tutorial and thought it was pretty cool! |
Anymore, I can say that about nearly everything I encounter! And I'm the electronic savvy person here. Lord help us. |

Maybe I didnt wait long enough or read far enough in the instruction book. I did like how quiet the Prius is once I got going. |
You need to be stepping on the brake while pressing the On button for the engine to start. Otherwise the only thing that will start is the radio. Unless they make Priuses different for different countries. It is VERY quiet. In fact, I read somewhere that some runners hate the Prius because they can't hear when one is coming up behind them. |
