For more information on why this is critical to health research for our breed, see: http://www.oeshealth.org/why_is_dna_important.php For details on the blood draw and to print the forms out ahead of time, please see: http://www.oeshealth.org/dna_do_it_for_them.php If you need to print out a copy of your dog's pedigree try: http://www.oeshealth.org/pedigree_search_alfirin.php * If your dog isn't in the OESCA pedigree database, but you'd like him or her to be, please submit dog's pedigree: http://www.oeshealth.org/forms/submission.php Note: This is not critical to the blood draw, but helpful nonetheless. Nor do you need to have a 3-5 pedigree printed out from this pedigree database. A pedigree is a pedigree. ** Neither the database nor health research nor the blood draws are limited to "show dogs" - health is important to ALL of our dogs. ***A number of rescue dogs have also generously donated DNA even though pedigree was often unknown. **** Even though the blood draw is scheduled for the 22nd & 23rd, because the vet who is generously donating her time to draw blood is also a performance person, there will time set aside on Tuesday the 21st at the obedience and rally trials to draw blood for anyone whom cannot stay the rest of the week. If you have any questions, or need help generating a pedigree etc etc please feel free to PM me. Got Sheep, Sheepiemommy, Sheepieshake, Sneakysheepie, Lucali and I will all be helping with the blood draw so if you're still confused when you get there, find one of us If you're not sure what any of us look like, follow the bling... The dog's. Not ours. At most dog shows the dogs look great, owners look like they just rolled out of bed Kristine |

GREAT THREAD, Kristine!!!! Yes, we all did it !! It was much LESS painless for the puppers than for us watching our babies being jabbed..But SOOOOoooooo worth it!!! Everyone involved were so kind, gentle, compassionate...to the furkids!!! (((US???? not so much!!! ))) ONLY kidding!!!! The whole process was very interesting and knowing that we were helping, made it ALL worthwhile!!!! Sooo..as Kristine said...FOLLOW the BLING!!!! (((Gosh, I have to start getting her wardrobe ready..I don't want to disappoint any of her 'friends, siblings, half-siblings, etc!!))) |
We are so lucky to have breed people who are vets! Chewie was drawn (and sister Martha) 2 yrs ago in MN, just a quick process, and NO HAIR SHAVED!!!! My girls have had blood drawn as part of the University of MN's Twin study for DNA research, so we thought it was perfectly normal for our dogs to do the same. A little blood to help health and research is a wonderful thing! |
José & Mariah were drawn in MN in 2008 too. As everyone said...........harder on us than on them. And no blood on their whites either! |

Okay then I call dibs on handing out the cookies ...... to the nervous owners that is! I will help them "eat" cookies while we fret over the dogs. You know - moral support. |

Sorry. Did I forget to mention that? Very gracious of you! But I thought moral support cookie eating was MY job.....??? I distinctly remember signing up for THAT, yes, I did!!! Kristine |
Is there any special paperwork that they need. Bella is a rescue and I am in the process of getting her PLA number. (I think that that is what it is called). |
sheepiegail wrote: Is there any special paperwork that they need. Bella is a rescue and I am in the process of getting her PLA number. (I think that that is what it is called). In her case you would just fill out the "application" plus brief health survey that goes with the blood and use her PAL/ILP <?> number for OFA tracking purposes. Pedigree unknown, I presume, so you just submit without. This is the link to the form that you fill out: http://www.oeshealth.org/documents/CHIC ... boForm.pdf This is what the DNA record keeping looks like for a fellow rescue dog who donated two years ago: http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1340068#animal She is also a performance dog which is why she has an ILP (is that Bella's reason too? ) You can submit even without a registration number, PAL or regular. And have I mentioned THANK YOU for considering doing this???? (Oh, and while I'm at it: is Bella signed up for the rescue parade on Friday???? see http://www.neoesr.org/rescue-parade-entry-form-2010.pdf Dazz is signed up. God help us all ) Kristine |
