Wendel was a whopping 97lbs I blame those devilish blue eyes for making me bend to his will and give him WAY too many cookies and food. I took Wendel to the vet yesterday for a weigh up and in approximately 6 weeks Wendel... lost a total of 9 lbs!!! Making him 88lbs!!!! He still weighs more than I'd like, but I'm so proud of my chow hound!! As a treat, I gave him a full groom. He doesn't like the bath, but he LOVES the blow dry. When he got wet I actually noticed how much weight had come off his sides! Ah, the power of green beans! Now only 8 more pounds to go and Wendel will be one perfect pooch!! |

Ashley wrote: OMG! Congratulations Now how did you doi it? I need to take off a few pounds from my male...Nothing seems to work! HELP! I cut back on a lot. No treats whatsoever. He can have a baby carrot or two. He gets two cups of food daily divided between AM and PM and then he gets a half cup of unsalted green beans in the AM and PM with food. My Asterisk LOVES The beans! In fact, she won't eat food without them now. Levi has no idea what beans are and won't touch them. He lost more weight then I thought he would in 6 weeks. I was hoping for 2 lbs, but 9 is fantastic! |
That green bean diet is wonderful. |
That is such good news. I'm sure he is feeling better too...not to mention the long term benefits to his health Good job both of you with keeping Wendel on a healthy diet! |
Great job!!! The power of the eyes is strong, so you've done well. |
Congratulations Wendel And you! You've done a great job! 9 lbs in 6 weeks Keep up with the good work ! |
I am going to try the green bean diet and no treats! 9 pounds in 6 weeks!Does it work for dogs too |
Remember, salt free green beans. Don't want to get dropsy. |
Just curious about the green beans...are they fresh, frozen, or canned? I noticed the note about being unsalted, so I'm thinking that canned is probably out... |
Glacier will only eat canned unsalted. She doesn't like fresh or frozen. I've even over cooked fresh to make them soft, nope, she likes canned. |
Patch loves canned gr beans and they really help the weight. I rinse them to get the salt off and put a few tablespoons on her chow, if she appears still to be hungry i give her more. She also likes pumpkin. And with her current GI problems, I mix rice in her food (50/50). She is a great eater and loves her vegetables. |

We use the unsalted can green beans. You can find them, usually on the bottom shelf in the green bean section, you'll also find unsalted peas and corn there too. You can use fresh or frozen, but I think that the canned is just easiest. I can open the can, give them a half a cup a piece with their kibble in the morning and put it in the fridge. Asterisk, even though she is not on a diet, will not eat her food WITHOUT the beans now. I'll put in her kibble, she'll look at it and then up at me as if to say '(snort) is that IT?' |
Yay!!!!!!!!! |
