Dudster is from NS. |
Is the purpose of your visit just a vacation?.. if so, I would suggest that you stay along the south shore, chester, mahone bay, lunenburg.. beautiful beautiful place, right on the ocean, wonderful places to stay, they are about an hour from Halifax. If you are coming later in the year, September or October, I would suggest Cape Breton.. nothing beats the fall colors in the Highlands. I can suggest some place for you to stay along the south shore if you are interested. There are sooooooooo many beautiful place in Nova Scotia, you are never far from the ocean |
Here are a few places on the South Shore that I have stayed at and loved. http://www.oakislandresortandspa.com/en ... fault.aspx http://www.whitepoint.com/ The BEST Seafood Chowder (in case anyone was wondering) http://www.seasideshanty.ca/ Information on Lunenburg http://www.lunenburgns.com/ |
Thank you so much Brenda ! I truly appreciate your help ! I'll keep you posted ! |
I love Nova Scotia. I'd love to retire there partly because BC is soooo expensive. But my husband doesn't want to go through those awful winters . He's spoiled by our moderate weather on the coast . I think maritimers are the nicest people you could ever meet ! |
Winters are not so bad.... honest.. |
I work in Lunenburg; beautiful place. Mahone Bay is very cute too and I have stayed at White Point a few times; loved it. All these place are 1 1/2 hour from Halifax on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Yah winters aren't that bad! |
My sister lives near Wolfville, Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley. It is about an hour from Halifax. It is really pretty in the spring, lots of fruit trees with beautiful blossoms. From spring to end of autumn there are so many little vendors (markets) along the road sides selling produce. My sister is 5 minutes from the water, if it fun to watch the tides come and go. Really her winters are not bad. They tend to get a few good snow falls, but generally not too cold. In January, bald eagles flock to the area, and the community has a huge festival. It is really moving to see so many of these powerful big birds all in one place. Mind you, Cape Breton is great too. My dad lives near the Cabot Trail and does lots of hiking and fishing. I know in October there is a wonderful festival called the Celtic Colours http://www.celtic-colours.com I have never attending but most of family has, and have had a blast everytime! Problem is... I never have enough time, just so much to see & do in Nova Scotia. peg |
I have driven through Nova Scotia many times on my way to the ferry to Newfoundland and have also taken time to drive around Nova Scotia and honestly, you could throw a dart at the map of the province, head to that spot, and you would have a wonderful time no matter where you went. Nova Scotia is a gorgeous province, with wonderful people and a surprising variety of landscapes considering it is not a huge place. Make some time to drive around Cape Breton if you can. But be careful, you might fall in love with the place and not leave! |

It's good to know that the winters aren't as bad as they seem on the weather channel. I grew up going to our summer cottage in Shediac, NB and spent lots of time in Nova Scotia as a kid. Haven't been back since becoming an adult .However, my Mom and Aunt go every couple of years and always show me their wonderful pictures and regale me with their lobster eating adventures . Yummy. I'm going to make it a priority to take a trip at some point with husband in tow . |
