having a little trouble trying work out a name for our puppy... any suggestions would be great.... he has two black ears and patch on his eye.... |
|
Sorry, at this moment I have to jump in with my standard, all time, most favouritest suggestion: Steve I couldn't resist. I've always wanted a female named Steve actually. Do you have a theme in mind? All ours are Manitoba place names for their first names, and famous scientists for their middles, for example. Do you want something that goes with the markings? Patch leaps to mind, or Pirate (you could pick a famous pirate name). Our Hudson's nickname is Smudge, which might work with the one black eye...? I really like people names, too. I've known a Jeffrey, Gordon, Lukas, BRANDON, Frank, Joe, and I think Bruce is a good one too. Names like Winston, Edgar, Walter (more classic ones) are good too. We toyed with Churchill for our current sheepie (who came to us with the name Rudy, which we have decided is short for Ruddock Einstein) but couldn't come up with a logical nickname from Churchill, so we kept the Rudy and made it work for us. |
thanks for the reply... I still a little undecided but I have one name I like Brockstar... I won't know till I see him in person... and then I will know... we pick him on Sat 14th... I never had any problems picking out my other babies names... we had three other oes dogs we lost Betsy 4yrs Bonnie 2 and Harley April this year.... |
Sometimes it takes getting the puppy home for a few days and a name will come to you. When I rescued my black Aussie I had not had a black dog since I was a child so it took me a few days to come up with a name for her. For some reason Asia kept sufacing. Anyway, I'm sure everyone will have some suggestions good luck. Looking forward to seeing pics |

We got him home & no way was he a Steeler. |
Four replies and nobody has given the response of RON We're slippin' here folks! (That's a long-time joke--naming a pup after our fearless leader) |
I think you should call him RON!!! Or Johnny, for Johnny Depp, who played that pirate in those piratey movies. Can't remember the pirate name. Jack? My memory is broken today! Go to your local dog park and yell out some names. A good name needs to roll off the tongue easily (this works with kids names too). That is why there are so few dogs named Jehoshaphat or Themistocles. We chose Mady not clueing in that it would be pronounced Matty by most people, and that sheepies mat easily and now people at the dog park mock us... |
Mady wrote: Go to your local dog park and yell out some names. Oh, boy, you'd be AMAZED at how many Marley, Chloe, Zoe, Max, Sophie 's are in the park. The NICE thing about my names are only two dogs come running when I call them - my own! |
Funny, whenever I see you mention your dog named Asterisk, I'm always thinking of Asterix, the iconic French cartoon character! http://www.google.ca/images?hl=en&sourc ... =&gs_rfai= |

I used to babysit for an artist's son back in the day. His father was Swiss and would always read those comics in French to him. I hear ALL different variants of Asterisk's name; Astrid, Aster, Ast-rick, etc. To irritate me, Josh calls her Ass-y It drives me CRAZY!!! |
I tend to research things to death, drives my husband crazy. So when we knew we were getting a puppy I started to find names and keep a list. I have since thrown out my list, darn. Not sure if you want a person's name ? We preferred a person's name for our pet. But I do love when I hear creative names of dogs. My husband always shortens peoples names, so I had to be careful when deciding! So some of the human names I can remember. Sullivan = Sully Dennis = Denny Louis = Louie Wilson, Wilby = Willy William = Liam Walter = Wally Ronald = Ron Brockstar = Brock We decided on Howard/ Howie meaning = guarder of sheep. Not many dogs named that in our town. It felt like it was an odd name for a pup, but as soon as we met him, well he was a goofy little Howie. When he sits at the end of the driveway, sitting all proper, he looks like a wise old Howard. Anyway, I am excited for you....the right name will come to you. Get your sleep now! peg |

Who was the guy from KISS who used to have the star on his eye? Paul Stanley maybe? How about Stanley? Runners up for us before we picked "Murphy" were Bentley and Brinkley. |
I like Stanley...when puppy's hair starts to grow it will look like Paul Stanley's hair, and the star over the eye...very cool. Really any name you can live with will be the perfect name for your pup. Can't wait to see pictures and find out what name you choose in the end. peg |
we (alright...me) look at mythical creatures, gods and anything a bit different from the norm lol Our cats are Loki ( the beyond mischievous ), Fenrir ( shortened to Fenny....Mythically Loki's son and half wolf...suits him as hes a black Forest cat ) and Yuki ( Japanese for snow...hes white! ) Asgard is our OES so you can see we like Norse names |
Here are some names http://pets.htmlplanet.com/male-dog-names.html Let us know when the name comes |
How about Nelson. I think Nelson is a good name for a male sheepdog. |
I offer Ripley. Im afraid my husband wants to name our next girl, Sigorney, after his long lusting over the beautiful star and his attraction to all her movies. Personally, he is going to b creepy old man at park calling for "Sig-gor-neyyyy"... Sooo, hopefully he will settle for Ripley or Weaver! ( he even liked her bald) |
My first male I rescued was named Lord Chumley. I always had a soft spot for it. |
I have three names that I really like...Shaggy, Benji and Sparky... but will let you all know what I have decided after we have picked him up... and post some photos too... thanks for all the replies.... can't wait 3 more sleeps...till he comes home..... |
I love the name Howard but that was my uncle's name and I think my aunt would be offended because she is not a dog person. |
I like Howard too! And another favorite of mine is Sherman. |
I vote for Umlat!!!! |
Thanks...I like Howard too. Originally when we tossed around that name before getting our puppy, some people looked at us and said 'really Howard?' so I got second guessing myself. Once we met our little boy we knew he was a Howard/Howie kind of dog. Bear...lucky you, three more sleeps until a new bundle of happiness joins your family. I am looking forward to photos. peg & pup howie |
hi all... well we picked up our little boy... and he is gorgeous.... and yes I have picked a name its Rory and he so looks like a Rory... wow and he really huge for 9 weeks compared to when our puppies were the same age... well had a good drive home it took 1-2 hours he was happy to sleep in my arms... we got home he investigated the house... he likes to chew... I forgotten how to do it everything...but he is so cute... thanks for all your help with the names... any other advice would be great tooo... I love how he follows me everywhere...I have missed this... not to sure how upload photos but hopefully someone can advise how this is done...thanks guys for all your help on choosing a name... Toni |
Rory, what a great name! Enjoy your time with him, it will be lots of fun. peg |
Just put a deposit down for my first OES!! I'm very excited he'll be ready December 9th! We decided to name him Winston, but I also like Charlie and Hunter. |
Leave your options open. Once you have the pup for a few days one name "just fits" better. Often it is not anything like what you had in mind. Congrats on the down payment. |
How fun! New puppies to hear about! My new fav name for a male OES, is Nelson. I do like Sherman, as Marilyn has said. Since 1983 I have had a Winston and of course a Shaggy,my male now, is Forrest. I named him Sherwood Forrest by the Brook. Thought he should have a more distintive name, since he comes from Bahlamb and Urstromtal lines. He is one sweet, gentle, mama's boy. Good luck guys with your new furballs and we want to see lots of pictures! |
