It has been my experience with my male that he grew the most until
9 months old, then he started tapering off. He is almost 2 now and he hasn't gained any weight since 9months old anyway. He stopped at 90lbs and now weighs 85lbs. LOL He was a pudgy puppy. He did grow taller between the 9 months and 2 years. He is now around 26 inches at the shoulder. Jack, as a puppy, gained 10 lbs every month. If he was 3 months, he was 30 lbs and at 8 months he was 80lbs...LOL He was easy to predict. We would love to see pictures!! Stormi and co. |
Growth in height or mass? Often a dog will stop growing about 9 months or so and then begin to get mass. In the giant breeds, the dogs begin to bulk and their chest gets bigger up to age 18 months or so. Not having had a big male sheepie, I can't say how they do. Remember, the soft tissue support system, ligaments and such take a while to stabilize, etc. This is why heavy duty agility training or heavy work is not recommended for younger dogs. Think of the dancing horses from Austria......no way I'm going to try their name (Lipizaner??). They don't start training until they are 7 or 8. Same reason, it takes awhile to mature.
Also most growith occurs in the early puppyhood, it slows down after awhile. You can't relate what happens in the first 5 months to what might happen in the next. Relax. Any size sheepie is great. |
Hi,
I know OES varies allot on maturing. I have larger OES and my males won't totally drop their chests and have their full adult weight until around 2 1/2 to 3 years old. They probably finish their height and length around 15 months or so. My males are 25 or 26" at their shoulders. Correct weight for these guys should be around 95 to 105 LBS. The girls seem to mature quicker. They generally finish heigth & length at around 9 months to a year and have their adult weight around 1 1/2 to 2 years old. They are around 23 to 24+" at the shoulders. Correct weight for these gals should be around 75 to 90 LBS. Zach |
