Our local park has a small train for children to ride around in. We were walking past it and near a small toddler (under 2 years old) with his dad. The dad pointing to the train said to the boy "what is that?" Boy responds "Choo Choo" Then dad points to Howie (4 month old sheepie) and says "What is that?" The boy responds "Bear". We all had a chuckle. Howie and the boy with oblivious to the joke. |

Beatrice has been called a panda bear, stuffed animal and the chubby one!! The First two I can deal with but the chubby one!! she is only 52 lbs. The big hair ball well OK. |
I've gotten little kids asking their parents if my dogs were real. |
Many years ago I took Max, my 1st purebred OES camping with me. We were hiking down the side of a road and encountered a woman with a small dog. Max started to approach them and the woman snatched up her dog and started to run. I called him back, leashed him and apologized to the woman for frightening her, assuring her he was very friendly. She said, "it's OK, I didn't realize it was a dog, I thought he was a bear!" |
Mady has been called a bear many many times. I wonder if it's particularly when they're still puppies, fuzzy, but not really long hair? I think Mady will look less like a bear when she's fully grown and has her full mature coat. Maybe that's a good thing, people would be more afraid of a big bear than just a bear cub! |

Cute! I always prepare to hear something like that when we go out with the dog! You can always guarantee to hear SOMETHING though. |

In my experience the past month or so, it has been "boy, your dog must be hot!" Yes, I KNOW she's hot! It's 90 degrees out! I'm hot! We're ALL hot! She'd still be really hot even if she was shaved down! It's too hot for dogs and people! (sorry, just been getting tired of that one! ) |

The day we brought our first sheepdog back to the ranger station, DH's ass't. said, "Better keep that dog close by before someone mistakes it for a bear." Sure enough, a few months later she and her younger brother Basil St. Bernard were greeting guests at the office and a women jumped back, "A BEAR!" DH looked puzzled and said, "Which one?" Season before I was working on another ranger district and the ranger had a Great Pyr who lounged all over the front steps and grumbled when people tried to enter the office. We'd get people driving up to the back door and hyper-ventilating, "There's a wolf out front." (Personally I thought Bear looked more like........a big white bear.) |
