Going down the highway at 70mph and having a 73lb sheepdog decide he MUST come and sit on your lap IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!! He came barging through and I grabbed him and pulled him onto me(ouch) and we had to pull off the highway to get him into the back again. We had to tie his leash in the back to stop him from doing this again. Just imagine if he decided to sit on dh's lap(he was driving). |

Crazy Simon!! When we were driving out last winter to go dog sledding in ND, my friend Lynne's dog did about the same thing. Except Abby hit the shifter in the middle as she climbed up...... We do love our dogs!!! |
That is scary Pam. Poor Simon - he just doesn't understand and he knows what HE wants. |
Maggie would always try to do this so we secured her in the car with a special harness. |
Yikes. That is so scary. I remember someone coming down the hill by the post office several years ago now. Their dog got in the way and they had an accident. Thankfully the man was ok but his dog didn't make it. I encourage people to use some form of dog seat belt. Kobuck probably wondered what the heck the crazy lady was doing now but he road in a seat belt for several hours on the trip home. Mrs. J said he'd try to get in the front seat so we just buckled him in. http://oesusa.com/index.1151.jpg The ones we have allows the dog to sit up and turn 180 degrees but that's it. Mine adapted quickly and you don't have dogs moving all around a moving vehicle. We also have an inflatable thing that goes in the leg room of the back seat so it extends the area where the dogs can lie down and no one has a chance of falling off the seat. The dogs like it because they can get closer to us but still not become an interference. http://www.fetchdog.com/pet-supplies/do ... low/A40073 So glad everyone is safe. |
Simon just wanted to help out with the driving!! He must have sensed you were getting sleepy. and like a good sheepie he was ready to do his part. |
Been there. Done that. I don't know why we never thought to secure them with the seat belt back then. Portage and Theeps were excellent in the back seat, but sneezing scared Portage. As long as no one sneezed things were fine. We got really good at squelching sneezes when we drove. Unfortunately, we never had a plan for the day Theeps sneezed. It scared Portage so badly that he went over the seat and landed on my hubby's head. He was driving in heavy traffic. All he could do was slam on the brakes and slap on the hazard lights. People were so mad, honking and giving us the finger. I managed to get Portage most of the way off of Gordon, and we slowly pulled into a nearby parking lot. It was crazy, but luckily no one got hurt. It happened twice...both times when ThePas sneezed. I tried to explain to him that he needed to hold it in when we were in the car, but that dog was so stubborn! |
HAhahaha, naughty Simon! I had this happen recently with a foster dog. 60 lb Shepherd mix, I did not tether him well enough and next thing I know he whaps me in the head with his big paw, knocks my glasses off, then forces himself into my lap. The joys of big dogs |
i have a suv and got one of those gates well dreamer busted through it and landed his entire body on the windsheild like one of those bobbing head dogs.. he has pushed my shifter into neutral st least 5 times |
sheepies should have their own retired police car and seatbelts. |
