Yep, it's been a hot one. A good old fashioned hot summer. My plants & flowers are thirsty too for some natural mositure. But I must say, we've gotten our money's worth out of our pool this year! |

But I must say, we've gotten our money's worth out of our pool this year! I have been BEGGING for a pool all summer. I don't care if it is just a small four foot plastic pool. If I could come up with a place where it wouldn't matter if the grass was killled, I think I would get my way. Then I'll work on the in ground "real one". |
I was so peeved when Todd got a pool last year and it killed the grass. I rarely used it. Now with this hot weather, I've been in it more this month than all of last summer. And the grandkids live in it! We moved it to a new spot - not a usable section of yard anyway - the kids mostly parked their cars there as overflow when they were here. Just an inexpensive 12 ft x 3 ft, it has a pump and circulates, very easy to maintain. We use our water straight from the well (rust) and it still stayed crystal clear. I am really impressed! We have a piece of old carpet trimmed to fit under it - makes it nice to walk on and probably extends the life of the pool. Last fall Todd drained it, rolled it up and stored it in my garage. Set it up again in the new spot this summer and it was just like new still. |

I was thinking about seting it up, down by the barn in the back, so no worries about the grass. You use your well water? Ours is so rusty... I was thinking about having it filled by the fire dept. No rust on the suits or anything??? I need to look into this! |
Isn't the summer terrible this year? I'm used to high humidity; I was raised within a mile of Lake St.Claire in Michigan. Now I live on the Mississippi river. I can handle the heat, but the humidity is stifling. I never knew how large my dogs bowels and bladder were until this summer. They walk out onto the deck and then walk right back inside. |
Glad you've got a smart cookie Abuckie! I think we've had a mild summer so far, but this weekend is supposed to get butt hot. We're going to be at an outdoor function too, so I'm just THRILLED about going. Add me to the list of those waiting for fall!! I was ready for it at the end of spring. I want one of those gotsheep! The kiddie pool doesn't cut it for the boys, and now that I'm pregnant.. ..getting into that bathing suit is not looking good, but when I take all three myself... I have no choice! |
I'm about 50 miles west of Chicago and yep, it's been hot. And humid. I usually hate the summer but I guess I've lived long enough to finally tolerate it. I say I would rather have an Illinois winter than a Texas summer! |
rust becomes a problem when you add chlorine as it causes the iron to percipitate out....and become visible. Can't imagine how long you can go without some sanitizing chemical, unless you refill every so often. My hip is bothering me so I don't want to get stuck in the pool.....ladders stink. So pool isn't being used much. Use the city pool with the stairs, no ladder. |

So pool isn't being used much. Use the city pool with the stairs, no ladder. This pool uses chlorine tabs - in one of those floaters. Todd occasionally adds granules. We have rusty well water, and it does precipitate out. But, it filters through the filters in the pump. We have two filters and swap them. They are reusable - we just take the used one over to the hose and blast it off. When he filled it in the spring he used a hose hooked to the utility sinbk - soft water...but that only did a little bit as we rapidly used up the softened stuff! So MOST of it was hard well water.... Last year we had some experimenting with keeping it clean - Todd was adding all sorts of crap. This year it has been perfect.. less is better! The chlorine evaporates out, so once or twice when it's gotten too strong he just leaves the cover off and it's OK by the next day. It has been getting a lot of rain water this summer too - he even has had to drain some out. We haven't had to add any other water since setup this spring. I hate chlorine, but this one is a pretty low level to keep it clear. The pump and filter system is pretty good too - and super simple. And best part is, the pool was under $100 at Walmart - totally have gotten our money's worth! |
I love it. Give me hot over cold any day. The last week was really high humidity and I can do without some of that but, otherwise, bring it on! |
I looked at this pool too. We have no place really to set it up without destroying grass which in the Fall would then become a mud bath but I was tempted to put it in the driveway! Ha ha...Any problems with the dogs nails putting a hole in the plastic? Right now I bought a plastic baby pool around six foot wide and two feet deep for the dogs but I sit it in to cool off |

Right now I bought a plastic baby pool around six foot wide and two feet deep for the dogs but I sit it in to cool off I have some neighbors who have theirs on their cement driveway - it seems to work...and no tracking grass in the pool! As a rule, the dogs aren't in there. Poppy the ACD has been, but she has super short nails. And I think the short shag-type carpet under it as a pad really helps. It makes it a lot nicer to take down in the fall - it's all clean under, not nasty mud slime.... I've used the wading pools before - in a pinch they really help! |

Use the filter more and you'll use less chemical. We too have well water, iron, magnesium, etc. I don't bother running half the water tests because we are so far off the scales. Just look, feel and test chlorine and pH. |
YES--the weather this summer has been stifling. I swear when I walk outside it feels like breathing through Jello--the humidity is so bad! My poor boys back up when I open the door--turn around and go as far away from the door as they can go-- and they wait until they just HAVE to 'go' before they will venture out! I am not a summer person anyway--bugs, snakes, weeds, humidity... My DH got out of the pool the other night and said--it's really hot when you are sweating when you get out of the pool! LOVE LOVE LOVE Fall--can't wait!! And I don't mind our Nashville winters at all--will take it over this! |
