Asterisk and I do agility. We didn't start till February this year, Asterisk was 21 months old at the time. She really enjoys it! She is better at agility than I am, sadly. I have to learn to direct her better. There are a lot of people on the board that do agility! |
Oh yeah, we have many talented......and not so talented, pig headed dogs in agility. Ditto uprights. You need to have good basic obedient skills with your dog as they rely on you to order them (correctly) into each .........challenge. Still, it's a great way to bond with your dog while your dog questions the ability of it's upright to give commands. Cruise thru the past posts, many times the dog proves it is smarter and more agile than the upright. Most of all, it's a blast, you both will enjoy it! |

Maybe I'll wait until she's full grown Or maybe it's just the younger she is, the faster she'll be learning it - Pups learn better I think I would appreciated if someone would give me more advises ! And the results your sheepie have gotten |
The best bit of advise I would give is that you should really make sure that she has had obedience training. In my last agility class there was a young girl who brought her yellow lab to class. The dog was hard headed and did not seem to mind her owner. Most of our classes were spent with the girl chasing after her dog who was running with a cone in her mouth. If you don't communicate well with your dog and your dog isn't minding you, it can be frustrating. |

My friend has a homemade Agility in her garden and I was testing Aska to day, and she did very well So that's not the problem. Thanks for the advise anyway ! |
Yes, sheepdogs love agility: Belle - 10 years old: Belle's daughter, Liz, who prefers "extreme" agility : Mad Dog: Mad's daughter, Sybil: Dazzle (rescue dog): You can start at a year old, but be aware that growth plates aren't closed yet, so take care not to jump over elbow height, do closed weave poles and so on. But there is lots of safe foundation work you can do at a year old. Sybil showing her young cousin, Mojo, the ropes (NOT recommended!): No agility pictures of Sybil's sister, Mace, I guess. Tsk tsk. Have fun! Kristine |
What a great pictures you've got there !! So Cute ! I hope Aska will love agility as much as they do ! Thank you for the pictures ! |
It is very fun The foundation work may seem long and not that exciting, but very much needed so you don't run into trouble and have to retrain it all later. Here are some more pictures - from a trial where they had a photographer. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=30217 Kristine - no pictures of Macy? poor girl! |
Fantastic pictures! Sheep herding or agility, what to do, what to do!!! |
Sheepdogs in agility???? Not in this world |
Pam! She's lives! Does this mean you're back from vacation? You missed a heck of a class this week. Poor Sue. The best she could do was make gagging noises at our disturbing attempts at handling. It was as if we had planned to collectively lose our minds the same night. And, of course, that class is nothing if not sassy. When she wasn't gagging, she was laughing uncontrollably. There was just nothing else to be done. It was like a night out at the circus KB |
What a great pictures Simon's mom Aska's agility classes are starting in September ! Can't WAIT ! |
