anyone with a dedicated bath grooming room?

we have decided to put in a nice bathing tub for the dogs. one that is elevated with an overhead sprayer to keep it easier on us.

So now we have lots of questions before we get started. I am planning on a 10x12 room. the walls will be tiled for easy cleaning and appearance. Floor will be epoxy with traction chips to keep from being slippery when wet.

looking for suggestions on the tub and sprayer. In town there is a Do_it_yourself dog wash that has a raised stainless steel tub. it as accessible on 2 sides wich we really like. So our plans will be along those lines. Looking for suggestions on the sprayer. anyone know of a source that the shampoo can be distributed through the sprayer, then switch to rinse?

any pictures or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. this will be a fall/winter project, just getting things in order now...

Have you gone to PetEdge.com? They have the system you're looking for that is a sprayer with multiple shampoo attachments that can be mounted to the wall.
I use a recirculating bath to distribute the shampoo. All you need is a 1/6 hp sump pump, a six foot length of hose and a good nozzle (like you'd get from the lawn department of Home Depot). Just make sure you're plugging into a GFCI outlet. We have a raised wood platform that we built to put in the bottom of the tub to keep the dog's feet from soaking in the water. I fill the tub with a couple of inches of water and add shampoo to the water, put the sump pump in with the hose in the water and let it distribute the shampoo in the water. Then, you just pull the hose out and wash the dog. It's powerful enough to go right to the skin so there's virtually no scrubbing. For rinsing, I fill up a giant plastic tub and pump the clean water that I filled in it earlier to rinse the dog (while the dirty water drains), but you could just have a good faucet that you could screw the hose onto right on the tub faucet to do the rinsing. I'm only using my regular tub and the faucet doesn't have that kind of attachment but it would make my life so much easier if it did!

I recently posted about my dedicated grooming room and that thread also included a link to my thread about my raised tub as well. See viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29959 If you plan to put the tub in the grooming room itself you will need to be careful about flooring materials (not sure epoxy and chips would really match nice wall tiling), slope of the floor to a conveniently located drain and air circulation. I would also carefully consider if you really want the tub to be arranged in a "peninsula" format because of how large the "footprint" would become. If you are using a standard 30" wide x 60" long tub, allowing 30" of dedicated walkway on three sides gives a 90" x 90" footprint which will totally dominate your room. Even just having access along one long side and one short side of the tub gives a foorprint of 90" long x 60" wide. If you draw your floorplan to scale you'll see how tight that seemingly big room becomes under these tub arrangements. And if the tub is not "constrained" on three sides water with shampoo will get pretty much everywhere when the dog shakes, and you know they will shake when they are absolutely saturated with water!! I very seriously considered the arrangement you are proposing before I went with the "enclosed tub" design I used so please don't think I am just championing my design for the sake of it. A little bit of training and your Bobtail can readily turn in the tub to afford complete access to his/her coat and save you a lot of space for other use.

I can't speak to the automated shampoo sprayer as I don't use one. While they are no doubt convenient I'm not sure they are really necessary, nor am I convinced that they can get the shampoo right down into the undercoat. That would be very dependant on water pressure and the shower head spray intensity - and your home water pressure is unlikely to be as high as at the pet wash facility. I use spray bottles and "massage" the shampoo thoroughly into the coat. A good pulsing shower head is essential to properly "wet out" the dog and then rinse the shampoo and, if used, conditioner out when completed.

As well as the tub remember to install dedicated circuit(s) for the dryer(s). For safety and "current reserve" I strongly recommend a dedicated 20 amp circuit (assuming you are in North America and are using a standard 15 amp dog dryer) for each dryer you plan to have. I have a number of recommendations for other aspects of the room's electrical supply as well if you want to discuss that.

If you still have questions after browsing through my posts don't hesitate to ask either in open forum or by PM.

Good Luck!

Thanks and Cheers

Carl.
Carl was the first person to come to mind. He's brought up good points, water pressure......and flow rate........and dedicated separate electrical line. Those dryers really pull the "juice."

Val has a dedicated doggie wash in her garage. I can't remember if it's in her photo file or not.

I had wanted to modify my laundry room to include a doggie wash station but it was going to be far too much money for replumbing, new electrical line, etc.

Don't forget a TV or other entertainment for you. Once the dryer is off you still have time on the dog, might as well enjoy music or TV.
The nozzle that I have on the hose could wash an elephant. Our water pressure is moderately powerful but the nozzle plus the power of the sump pump really give it kick. It's much more than a shampoo sprayer that you would attach to a regular faucet.
i have just done a new grooming room, i am so chuffed with it.

Actually, the Bathing Beauty is exactly the same thing as I described above that I have. The only difference is that it will cost you about $100 to make one yourself versus the $599 that they sell it for!

Karen,

I would have to say that is a full-on grooming studio, not just a room. No matter what you call it, it is exceptionally nice. No wonder you are chuffed with it, you should also be very proud.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
thank you carl x
but i have to admit the paint colour is off one of your photos of your grooming room. i know it was a yellow shade but one was orangey and i loved it, you inspired me!!!
and yes i am very proud of my new grooming room/studio just need a nice path down to it once we have built the extension!
I agree with Carl!
That's not a grooming room. I called it a grooming shack.

Whatever you call it I am seriously jealous. It looks lovely.
