Anyway as many of you may remember George had to have his anal glands removed last year. As a result he seems to have lost his confidence. He now doesn't like to go out for walks. If we pick up his collar he runs away and hides. He does go out occassionally but he doesn't play with his doggy friends any more and he doesn't like to be off his lead any more. The other day I put his collar on and he turned to bite me which he NEVER does. He hasn't got anything wrong with him physically (he has been checked at the vets) just a loss of confidence. Has any one else had a similar experience or any ideas of how to build his confidence up again? Thanks Vicki |

I am so sorry about this, bless him. I wouldn't have thought just the op would have made him lose his confidence, would it? If the vet has said he is fine physically, perhaps you need to treat him like a pup, give him treats as you put on his lead and take some with you. Walk only a few yards down the street, and then back again. Perhaps someone else will think of something xx |
Aw, poor boy. |
He's not in pain is he? I agree, start all over with training again. Something really frightened him, the vet's office, surgery, drugs, post care, car ride? If he knows his basic commands, start with those and reward. When he realizes he can do those, it's time to relearn the walk. Then relearn car ride. After that introduce new things, including a visit back to the vet's for a cookie treat. Poor guy. |
