not necessarily, mine did eat both standing and laying, depending on his mood. |
Chewie eats standing and laying too. And he's not that tall either, I guess he just feels like doing it. |
Sweetpea always eats laying down. She kind of puts her front legs round the bowl as if to say 'Its mine...all mine'! She reminds me of a student trying to cover their work to stop anyone copying! |

She reminds me of a student trying to cover their work to stop anyone copying! He does the exact same thing. And sometimes just one leg is wrapped around and the other paw is in the Sheepie tuck. He does have some food guarding issues, which are much worse when he's standing up. So maybe that's the real reason. |

Only Glacier stands while eating, the others vary. Mood, hips, and if Mommy puts them into a down before serving. |
My Aussies China/Asia both lay down to eat. Violet stands and Pearl the cat sits. |
My first sheepie, Max, used to eat lying down a lot of the time. Haven't had one do that for awhile and I'd forgotten all about it! |
Wendel will do this occasionally. I always chalked it up to the fact that the linoleum is cool in the kitchen and his belly is warm. I think it just feels good, at least to my guy! |

Heart stands...Pearl lays down..probably to protect her bowl from Heart... |
I appreciate all the responses..it has set my mind at ease. I was concerned because it was new behavior, but I think it's just an easier way for him to guard his food from his Border Collie sister, who loves to push his buttons. |
