If you are considering cooking, you need to make sure you get the proper vitamins and calciums, etc in the food. Home cooking is more than just some cooked meat and chicken. There is a good group that can give alot of info - not just raw. The raw sites will lean heavily towards raw and their discussions are all about raw. This group is about what works for your dog. k9kitchen.com. Monica Segal is who runs it and she has some books and phamlets discussing home cooked diets. Look her up and you will find her site and her info. Just beware...not all info on the internet is good. Talk to your Vet as well. Dogs need balanced diets. Honest Kitchen has some good foods you can buy a pre mix and add your cooked meat of choice. Do alot of research before you just start cooking |
I wanted to do the same for Frankie. He has always had a sensitive stomach. So instead of worrying about making sure I get him all of the proper nutrition, I switched to half dog food half cooked food. My vet and his Physical Therapist said this was ok. I feed him Mulligans stew fish recipe dry dog food. Then I mix either cooked green beans or cooked spinach. I'm being told to cook them slightly because dogs can't digest raw vegetables very well. I also mix a table spoon of canned pumpkin, a teaspoon of probiotic powder , a tablespoon of flax meal, Then a tiny bit of ground cooked turkey. I also add a little bit of warm water to the food. He never goes a day with out eating unless he's not feeling well, and he hasn't had soft stool in a month. Lisa and Frankie |
Naw, they eat what we eat.......or wish they could. Jack and I split the pineapple today, nice fresh and juicy. At least I wouldn't let him eat the core! |
