Try peanut butter? I had some sappy/gummy stuff in Chewie once. I used a solvent and ended up not getting it rinsed all the way out of his toes and he got a small chemical burn I had tried other methds and none worked, The solvent did work... |
do you mean mineral spirits??? |
sheepiegail wrote: do you mean mineral spirits??? It may have been similar - I bought it as a gummy stuff remover. I can't remember the name, but it wasn't Goo be gone. |
Also try WD40.....it's mainly fish oil. |
SheepieBoss wrote: Also try WD40.....it's mainly fish oil. Definitely try that. I tried it too - it made it a bit slimey, but didn't make it go away. |
Did you follow up with Dawn liquid to break up the oil? Sometimes it is a two step process, break up the ?? with WD40 and then break up the WD40 which carries away the goo. Still wondering what the mystery stuff is...... |
I will try the WD40 tonight and then wash with dawn after. that this works. I am thinking this stuff could start a terrible little mat. |
It is not natural ear wax is it? Like that is any easier? Do you think it's from the poop or secretions from wood? Yeah, it might cause problems, but then again, unless you are in the show ring, some trimming in those tight places is acceptable. |
I think it might be some type of axle grime. It was thick like gum so I don't think it was grease and it is stickier than ear wax |
eeeeooooowww! I'd probably grab the scissors. Axle grease and water......nope. What about that stuff used by mechanics..........Goop? It's a waterless cleaner so you don't get that problem with grease and water. |
I've found dish washing soap- like dawn, works for anything greasy or sticky. Good luck! |
Soap probably won't take out anything sticky like adhesive. Goo Gone will work, as will WD40 - (NOT made of fish oil btw) as long as you wash it out you're fine. Maybe try vinegar? That takes out gum, and if you don't know what it is, vinegar is probably the least harsh to start with. Shellie |
I'm wondering if it's a heavy grease, like wheel bearing grease. You could try a solvent to remove it, but I forget which one. It may be paint thinner. You could go online to find which solvent works with which material. Could it be tree sap or some other type of wood sap? You'd still need a solvent for that. Again, look online. You could try a waterless hand cleaner. |
Eucalyptus Oil, dab onto a cotton wool ball, make sure it is soaked in it real well and dab onto the gooey greasy area then let it sit for a little while and you should be able to run a comb through it to release the grease from that area, works wonders on chewing gum in hair as well. After just rinse off, wether that is with a soapy flannel to remove as much of the eucalytus oil off that area after. It works well had chewing gum one time one of the dogs stepped in no cutting coat the oil did the trick, does well on greasey things as well. |
Sheepiegail, Any luck cleaning up the sticky ear? Please do not use GOO BE GONE, I have used it a few times in construction and the smell is overwhelming, I got a headache instantly each time, I can't imagine what it would to a pup's nose! Don't you love these silly messes that magically appear on our dogs, ugh. Good luck, let us know what worked for you. peg |
I couldn't get the stuff out so a little trimming was needed. It was a small area and not noticable. |
