Most ridiculous puppy story ever!

Disclaimer: I post this story at grave risk to my personal and relationship health, but some tales are too good not to share! :P

Now, both Kim and I have never had experience with puppies before, I had some experience with an adult sheepdog-mix that ended up with my parents (and was the main reason I wanted a sheepdog), Kim had had no experience with dogs, but she definitely fell in love with the puppy pictures we were sent by Amber.

We picked up Mady, 8 weeks old, on January 2nd. She was a tiny 15lb furball, completely adorable, sweet, and well, very, very nippy too. I guess all puppies start off wanting to nip everything, but we were completely new to this. We had taken the week off work to care for our little girl, but on January 7th, there was a concert I was hoping to go see, Kim would stay home with Mady, she was still too young and we too nervous to crate her alone for a couple of hours. I went to the concert, it was really good. I headed home expecting to find Kim having had a nice and enjoyable evening spending some quality time alone with our sweet puppy...

Instead, I found Kim standing on the couch, in tears, calling Mady "Cujo"!!! 8O 8O 8O It seems, Mady, or "Cujo" had been barking and nipping at Kim non-stop all evening. Kim was ready to send lil'Cujo back to the breeder!

I, uh, was surprised and didn't know how to respond... 8O

Here's a picture taken at the time of "Cujo" stalking the house looking for fresh-prey named Kim to maul...

Ever since, Mady has been very attached to Kim, I honestly think Mady thoughts are along these lines:
1. Daddy put me in charge of this sheep Kim.
2. The sheep Kim is showing herself to be wildly unbalanced and fragile, I better take extra special care of her!

That'll do Mady, that'll do.

Aaawww, good job, Mady!
go Mady :clappurple:
Yeah, sooooo, any of you folks out there have any single friends for a newly single sheepie owner?

In my own defence, she DID have very sharp little teeth. It seems so ridiculous now. I could stick my hand in her mouth full of sharp teeth and she would just lick my hand. Seems so silly that I was afraid. But I DON'T think that she follows me around because she thinks I am a sheep. She just loves Mama best and Daddy doesn't like that...
She may be considering Dad as the pack leader and Mommy is someone she can curl around her paw. Cute now but dangerous later. I'd suggest both Mommy and Daddy take Pseudo-Cujo to training and learn how to become Cujo's, er, Mady's pack leader. Dogs respect leaders. Puppy is calm and loving when it knows it is not in charge because the uprights are.

Mady is 8 months old now. We contacted a trainer shortly after the 'Cujo' incident and she is doing well with her two legged pack leaders!
Mady's mom I know that fear of Cujo.
One evening when Howie was 9 weeks old, I was alone. I could not move without this wild little puppy attacking me. I sat on the couch crying/balling wondering why my husband & I did got this monster! I had bites all over my arms I even needed a butterfly stitch. With the help of my breeder we got Howie under control and now he is a sweet 4 month old.
We got the biting under control now onto our next challenge...Howie eating EVERYTHING. We were at the vet's today doing blood work because he had vomited a few times yesterday and this morning. Blood work came back clear, sigh. Our house has never been this clean and uncluttered, thanks Howie.
What we our next challenge be???
So Mady's mom I can sympathize with you...15 lb bundle of fur attacking. Glad you were able to 'nip' the problem right away.

peg & 'hunting for trouble' howie
This so reminded me of when Poppy was tiny. She too just nipped my feet/ankles/anything she could reach and one night, Tony was out and me and 'biting monster' were home alone I remember tipping all of the toys out of her toybox and sitting with my feet in the box all evening so she couldn't get to them! At the time it was horrible but I look back on it quite fondly now! This phase does pass - honestly!

Bwahahah, sorry, I bet it wasnt funny at the time but I'm cracking up imagining you with your feet in the toy  box.
I stayed home with Hudson (evil puppy) his first summer and he was nipping feet, too. We had a metal fence/pen thingie and I'd put him in it for my sanity (and for the safety of my feet). He'd throw himself against it and carry on. I was afraid he'd knock it over and it would collapse around him and hurt him.

My solution. I put a chair INSIDE the fence, sat myself on it, and let him have the living room. I think he found it so funny he just laid there and stared at me, perplexed.

He was still Dr. Destructo during the Christmas Holidays, and that pen came in handy. We put the tree up INSIDE it. Kept him away from the ornaments AND the presents. He'd sometimes sit just outside it and try to bat at the stuff through the bars with his little foot.

And now....he's delightful. But I never thought I'd be saying that out loud.
Thank you, forum folks, for leaping to my defence! I TOLD David that my reaction was perfectly normal!
