I went shoe-shopping yesterday, as I realized that Crocs just were not going to cut it as my only shoes forever. I currently cannot wear anything with a back (the part that touches your ankle) due to the fact that they cause hives to form there, and swollen ankle joints. I also cant wear anything that rubs or puts pressure on any part of the foot. It doesn't help much that I have bizarrely small, chubby feet I wear a children's size 3...but now that my feet are perpetually swollen, those don't really fit either . I'm finding that no one really makes kids sizes in "wide", so basically nothing that I can find will work (other than the much appreciated Crocs, that is). I love, love, love Bogs (a company that makes colorful, stylish water-proof boots and shoes), but their sizing is such that in order to have them wide enough, they would stick out beyond my feet by acres . Anybody have any suggestions? I need (desperately) some kind of decent looking water-proof shoe for my upcoming shows. Tanana Fair (The State fair in Fairbanks) has a habit of turning into a giant rain and mud fest...so shoes with HOLES in them are a bad idea! They either have to be backless (like a clog), or come up high enough (like a short boot) that they miss the ankle altogether. These would be the perfect thing...if they made a size that fit me http://www.sierratradingpost.com/Produc ... essed=true |

Muck makes a backless shoe. I have both the regular slip on style that covers the heal as well as the slipper style. They are water proof, solid across the toes and have no backs. They are also very comfortable and you can wear them for hours. |
I don't have any suggestions, but I find my widest selection of good brands at shoebuy.com (free returns, just put label on and send back at their expense). |
Are you saying that your feet are only about 7 inches long? My son's in a size 3, he just turned 7 two weeks ago. He does not have large feet for his age/size, he is very average. That just doesn't sound right. Your feet don't look that way in any of your pics. Very odd.. I have short wide feet as well. I often look for mens since they are cut wider. (and I'm from a shoe manufacturing family - my dad is probably rolling over as I write this!) You could always have them made. It's a thought. Shellie |

My feet probably look longer in my pics because I often wind up with over-long shoes, and just put up with it . Lucky for me, some companies actually make fairly adult-looking kids shoes these days, so I don't often find myself cutting off little bows, or resorting to Power-Puff girls sandals (ok,ok, I lied...I DO own a pair of those, just because I CAN . |
I feel your pain. My feet are 8 inches long and very, very boxy, even before 4 pregnancies--a boys' size 3 1/2 fits me because boys shoes tend to be wider. In general, brands that fit me decently include PUMAs and New Balance. Clarks (hard to find where I live) tend to make wider toe boxes. One thought: if you get hives, perhaps it is a question of materials? Have you considered using no synthetics at all? Or organic vegan shoes? Not inexpensive alternatives, for certain. Or: found this on line. No idea about the company/brand: http://www.cinderellaofboston.com/Produ ... Y&CatID=24 |
Shoebuy didn't have anything in dress, 3 extra wide, but did have some casual. Birkenstock Bostons were about the only thing that didn't look like they belonged on the beach. I have long, wide, swollen feet. No heels for me; height or heel wrap either......except I can wear New Balance men's shoes......they do make a 5E width. I'm surprised because all my life I thought all new shoes came with a box of band aids for the blisters. Good luck on your search!! |

I ordered my wedding pumps from them many years ago...the only high heeled shoes Ive ever owned! Its funny, Ive never (for some reason) thought of the possibility that "boys" sizes are not the exact same as "girls" in kids shoes. Duh! Ill start checking out the boys section! On the hives...my hives are triggered by pressure. Cotton, rather than synthetics does help, just because its softer (usually), but its really not like an allergy, where materials might make a big difference. Some people who have this form of hives are actually so sensitive to pressure that you can write a word on their skin with your fingernail, and it will come up legibly in the form of a welt! Im not quite that bad...but close. I wake up each morning with a perfect road map of all the wrinkles in my sheets outlined in hives I wont even discuss the undergarment issues Back-of the ankle hives are particularly miserable, so Im determined to win this specific battle in the ongoing war my immune system and I are waging |
I'm not trying to be funny but I know this will come off that way but look at Asian companies-- ones that market just Asian people. You may need a translator! I have a Korean friend that always laughs at me because she says I'd never get a shoe to fit if I was in Korea because everything is geared for much smaller feet. I'm an 11. |

I buy boys shoes as well. Same reason short wide feet. SIGH |
Clarks might be another option--I have a friend who has very small feet and she wears Clarks often. Don't know if her feet are as small as yours but she looks in the children's dept. too. |

That is so funny Laurel about the shoes with flames. I also have small feet and recently bought out of the girls department a pair of Sketchers that in a "collection" called "twinkle toes". They have studs all over the toes, so for the twinkle toes and butterflies drawn on the side with sparkley shoe ties. I didn't know they were from a "collection" until the day I took China to the Vet and the Vet Assistant said "oh you have Sketchers Twinkle Toes. My daughter has them and I wanted to get a pair." I told her I found them in the Childrens dept. lol I'm not crazy about tennis shoes (sneakers) but I do enjoy wearing these. lol I hope you find the other shoes you're looking for. |
Birkenstock is wonderful. They're very neutral. http://www.birkenstockusa.com/ |
londonn wrote: I love Birkenstocks, but unfortunately they have the same sizing issues for me as the Bogs do...they run narrow and long. By the time I have a pair that is wide enough, I'm tripping over the extra length. I know I can have them made special, but I never have that sort of patience . At this point I'm just going to have to hope for dry weather at my late summer shows...as if I were not ALREADY hoping for that! Last year it rained all two weeks of my Fairbanks show, and my booth, campsite, and the path between them all turned into a swamp . I can buy a pair of rubber boots up there, if it comes to that, I guess. I was just hoping perhaps I could find something pretty and comfortable, that didn't make me look like I'm going dip netting or something . Oh well. |

That's hilarious, Helen! I though about buying those same sneakers! I also find myself eying the ones that have little lights that blink with every step! If you are really in the mood for funny shoes, there is a company that make kids sizes of a style much like Crocs...but the shoes are all shaped like animals! They have sharks, frogs, puppies, and even fireflies that light up! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/searc ... Polliwalks |
Here is a online store offering custom order shoes service, http://www.pickylady.com They make shoes as per your feet width and length, so petite sizes, small feet, large feet shoes available in this store. And they can even produce half sizes for you. Very impressed with so many fashion styles to choose from. |
