So Dale and I are in the Outer Banks right now for a few more days, and today we decided to take an excursion thru the dunes in northernmost Corolla to see the wild horses. There were 11 in our tour - the 2 of us, and 9 from the same family. On the section of beach where the tour starts, people are allowed to drive on the beach to swim, fish. You have to have a 4WD or you WILL get stuck - and even a few 4WDs got stuck. The one father just wouldn't shut up - thought he was SO funny (yeah, one of THOSE), and otherwise he was of the opinion that he knew everything about everything - especially trucks. HIS truck was the biggest and the best Ford; oh, that guy has a Dodge Hemi; that guy has a Dodge RAM; that guy has a Chevy (God forbid!!); I don't see any Hondas down here; yada, yada, yada. Annoying, but bearable if he were the only one talking. But this man had 2 daughters with him, probably around 10 yrs and 13 yrs old and what mouths on those kids!! Dale and I just kept looking at each other, as if to say - our kids would be choking on their teeth by now! The first 2 horses we saw on the beach was a mare and her colt. This colt was a little taller and was nursing. Because the colt was a little taller, it didn't look like a typical nursing situation. But the 10 YEAR OLD says - that's not a nursing colt, that's a BJ!!! I damn near swallowed my tongue!! These kids kept whooping and hollering to anyone on the beach and Daddy Dearest just kept laughing at them. These people were not country bumpkins - they were from Connecticut (must have heard that 100 times), were staying in Corolla (which is one of the most expensive places to stay in the Outer Banks), and from the way he was talking (or more aptly - bragging), he owned other property in western MA - so they had decent money. Yet they were the loudest, brashest people we have ever encountered. That 2 hour tour was the longest 2 hours of our lives!! We enjoyed the tour itself and loved seeing the horses, but yikes! I almost hurt myself biting my cheeks to keep from saying - SHUT UP AND SMACK THE SMUT OUT OF THOSE KIDS' MOUTHS!!!!!!!! Just had to vent a little. |

I have found that people like that, who have to "let you know" what they have, really don't have that much. I was always brought up under the impression that "if you have it, you don't need to talk about it." |
Exactly, if you've got it, you don't talk about it. Newly Rich or Psudo Rich are the worst. Just trash with cash. |

The outer banks is my favorite vacation place with Hilton Head being second and I am from Florida. Just love the fact it's not overly commercial in comparison to Myrtle Beach. Hilton Head is nice because of the shady trees behind the beach and families are on bicycles going everywhere having a good time together. You can ride your bike on the beach and then they have bike trails everywhere. My family had such wonderful memories of spending time together at Nags Head! We are looking forward to when the grandaughters are old enough to spend a week at the beach with them. I can just smell the ocean air and hear the waves just thinking about it! |
Isn't that just irrititating!!!!(sp?) It ruins the atmosphere of a beautiful place when the people around you are so rude! I would hate to see what those kids are like as they get older--- with those kind of mouths now. Too bad Dad was busy bragging and didn't have time to discipline the potty mouth brats. |

Ya can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
I'm glad you had the opportunity to see the sights, sorry it was slightly marred by tacky people... |
