Is it a food allergy? Flea dermatitis? Stress? Dry skin form winter? How old is the dog? What food is the dog on? There are many here who can offer advice, but it would help if we had some more information....

Have you taken him to the vet?
Sheepies can get a skin disorder that is ugly and stinky and sorry to say incurable. I hope that this is not what your baby has. If he/she has dry skin you can do a few things. One of the causes is winter, in your house you have your heater on, this can add to the dryness, so turn your heater down. My sheepies have had some skin issues along the way. I took them off all food with a corn base. They can be very sensitive to it. I also give supplements, Omega 3 oil, Vit E, Brewers yeast and have for all the years I have had them. Tyler will be 12 next month and his skin and coat are in great shape. Kiera was very dry when I got her two years ago and with the supplements, I have seen a big improvement in her skin. Her coat is still curly and dry, but I don't think it will change. Good luck and make sure you know what you are dealing with. |
You may want to check with your vet. Dry skin can be caused by hypothyroidism, allergies, etc. |
My bearded collie mix also has it. I try to keep her well brushed and clean and try not too bathe her too often. However, when the chewing gets too severe we go to the vet for a cortisone shot and follow up with prednisone for a week. be prepared for a triple intake of water once she's on steroids though. A small price to pay for her comfort. Ironically, it's the exact same perscription I get for my eczema. |
It isn't the puppers that have the eczema at my house, it is my 4 year old son. We have tried so many prescription medicines and the new one called Elidel, which made his skin worse. The best thing we are doing to treat it, is oatmeal baths and over the counter Eucerin. If anyone has any suggestions for treating eczema for people, I could use the help.

Try bathing them with coal tar shampoo any brand is fine it will stop the flaking somewhat after one treatment, but will do its job after 3. I would take the advice of the others also and go to the vet to start.
The best thing for minor psoriasis or eczema is DesOwin, or tridesilon same thing. It relives the itching and is a steroid so it speeds up healing. For eczema or dandruff in the hair use the coal tar shampoo. look at this link it seemed pretty informative http://www.eczemaresource.com/focus_art ... ce&spg=SHO |
