barking at children

My big, loveable OES (now 18 months) has an issue with two of my younger daughters friends. The boys are both 9 years old. One of them is afraid of dogs, the other likes dogs but seems to have adapted to being afraid of my dog because the other boy is. I've let Murphy out to greet the boys when they are over and then usually put him in his area (he has a nice area at the back door that 's his). However when I've got him out in the house (on leash) when either of these boys are over, he'll be fine for a bit and then all of a sudden he just jumps up barks 3 or four times and tries to get to the boys. I'm sure he's sensing a fear in them. I always correct him and tell him "no" firmly, but I'm scared at what he'd possibly do. He doesn't do this to any of my older daughter's friends (she's 13) or adults, or any small children that we meet while out for walks. He will bark at other dogs while out on walks, if the other dog growls at him first. Is this a protection thing? Is he sensing fear in these boys and is interpreting it as something? HELP!

All need to get to know one another. Have each boy walk her. Afterwards have the boys sit and pet her, you need to be there too. Continue this training.......explain to the boys their help is need in training. After awhile a walk or two, the muzzle can be removed and afterwards the boys can give treats.

You must always be ready to give the NO command, whatever you use. It's NO and a stare down, putting your body between you and the boys or whatever is causing her to go off. Do not be angry or upset, you are a kind, loving dictator who does not allow misbehavior. The first few stare downs will take time, afterwards, your eyes speak volumes.
What sort of barking is it, just bark, bark, bark, or is it savage/angry barking?

And what are the boys doing at the time? Are they sitting still, or walking past or running around? Are they noisy or quiet?

My girl barks when kids or dogs are running, she wants to have fun and chase. She also barks when she's on one side of the baby gate and visitors are on the other because she wants to get to them and do some lovin' and can't so is frustrated. This barking is in no way aggessive although it scares some other dogs and would probably scare some people if they're not familiar with dogs.
