Mady is the sweetest thing ever. She was at a big dog park the other day, first time for us too, there were tons and tons of dogs. We came upon a bunch of dogs playing, and a couple of dogs went at it, not a full-on dog fight, but they snapped and growling at each other. As soon as they did that, Mady turned and ran over to me, she does not want to be near any dogs acting aggressive. She's a gentle teddy bear with children, especially little ones. I was walking her today down the street and we came upon 3 little girls. We have sorta trained her, she's sorta trained herself, that with small children, she goes right down on her belly lying down. The girls loved the big teddy bear of course. They were walking in the same direction as us, we were a little bit ahead, and Mady kept turning her head back at the children. She decided it wasn't enough and lay down again for the girls to catch up and hug her some more. I could go on and on (and usually do! ) she's the sweetest most perfect little sweetheart in the world |

Ok, so Frankie must be the exception. My dads dog Shelby is 1 year old and she tries to crawl under Frankies legs and he growls at her. He often gets time outs at daycare. They say he's a stinker and always trying to start something. My excuse is his bad hips. But we are working on it. Other than that he is very sweet. Always a wiggle butt, and always willing to greet a stranger with a wiggle. Frankie and Lisa |

I know they are the best dogs EVER... and thought it would be fun to talk about how sweet natured our pups are Patch and I have been together for almost 8 years and I have never seen her growl, bite, or even show the Elvis lip. She is so non-Alpha and non-aggressive. A dog runs up to her to fight or act nasty and she turns on her paws and walks away, usually to me for protection. She is pure sweet and love. BUT, does have mule in her ancestry somewhere down the line. |
Mariah....my singleton. If I were going to clone a dog, it would be this one. 10 years & 4 months old & I've never seen her snarl or heard her growl. Sometimes I wish she would......around some of the dogs that visit here. Maybe that would put them in their place . Instead she just sits there & let's them chew on her & jump all over her while she just moves her head every which way to get out of their "path of attack". I can honestly say I can put her with any strange dog & she will get along with them. Same way with a bunch of puppies. Now my boys are as sweet as they come but they aren't crazy about puppies. They will give a warning growl off if puppies are around. Must be too much commotion for them. |
MO didn't growl until Jack showed up...... now she does it frequently. Of course now it's "keep away from me my paw hurts." Jack growls, maybe there's a snarl in there. It's Harry who I've seen snarl just once......at Jack. |
Tiggy is usually a sweet, friendly girl BUT............ she wont take S--T from other dogs about anything. If they steal her ball or have a go at her then she arcs up and gets quite narky. It's never gotten serious to date but she makes it quite clear that she's having none of it thank you. |
They are indeed the best dogs ever. But I have seen mine snarl. With Maggie, she's amazing with other dogs in an off-leash situation where she can run free but in a contained situation (on a leash or in a car or in a noisy crowd) her fear can make her lash out a bit at people or dogs coming too close for her comfort. I have to be careful to watch and redirect her in those circumstances. At her core, she is a dog that will pee in fear/submission when she is overwhelmed. But the good news is that she has never snarled at a child, the vet or a groomer and that makes me very happy. In fact, I took her to the groomer's yesterday. It was a new person and she said Maggie poked her face towards her and she was nervous wondering what she was going to do and then Maggie showered her with gentle kisses as she was grooming. She always does that to me. It can be a challenge to work around her lapping tongue but it is so sweet that I mostly don't stop her. Henry is Mr. Mellow. He is at ease in all circumstances -- on the leash, in the car, in a crowd, around kids --but he has taken to lunging and snapping at boy dogs who about his age or younger (say 8-12 months old). It generally happens when the pup comes up to investigate and perhaps test out who is dominant. Henry seems to be telling them to back off and leave him alone and once they do, he is fine. But I saw him do it to a pup that seemed to be minding his own business (at least to me). I can see why the owners of those young doggies don't like it and I've left the park early a few times if Henry doesn't chill out. I keep hoping it is a phase that he will grow out of. I am going work with him more on this when we get back home. |

We never trained her to do it, I guess she just sensed that she is bigger and gets right on her belly to be at their level. She also doesn't like aggressive dogs - she is a big wus. She is just a very sweet natured sheepie and doesn't have any "mean" in her. I loved my other 2 sheepies to pieces, but there is something very special about Jenny. |
Considering the number of times each of the dogs have gotten slammed in the legs by the baby in the walker (yuki has had to endure 3 kids) ...I think the dogs are extremely patient and sweet. Yuki does growl at Jilly when she does it but she never did w/the first 2 kids. Guess she feels her age gives her some right to speak her mind now. Having been knocked down a few times from the walker ramming extremely hard into me... I know it can be painful. The kids haven't bit or growled at Jilly either, so I think I'm quite lucky. |
You just need more dogs in the house. When our guys play, one inevitably gets annoyed and someone snarls or growls like to say "Enough!" It's always play related, though and it only takes once. Poor Bear is the one with all the patience in the house. The OES drive him crazy and he puts up with an amazing amount of shenanigans. |
