He is cute! Looks full oes to me, but I had the same thoughts! |
I'll look into him....if I can help facilitate I will. I can't foster right now though. |
4 months - poor pup! |
He's so cute, Erin! Thinking he just needs a tubby to whiten those whites. Quote: Max hasn't known a loving home since he was nearly 8 weeks old which was the first time I saw him. Even at an early age he spent his days on a chain. When it rained he didn't even have shelter most of the time. Why even get a dog if you're going to do that? |
Did you check out his horrible story? How can someone be so cruel to a BABY?! Quote: Max hasn't known a loving home since he was nearly 8 weeks old which was the first time I saw him. Even at an early age he spent his days on a chain. When it rained he didn't even have shelter most of the time. Then one day he was gone...and in his place was a blue heeler pup and he is also on a chain. Please give Max a chance at happiness. He is very happy here at the shelter which is unusual for any animal. We guess his opinion is that he gets food, love all the time and mostly he gets to run and play with other dogs like he was born to do. Max is ready for visitors anytime you want to come see him. I'd foster him in a heartbeat... to bad I'm so far away |
I'd help pay to transport him, Erin. That offer stands for any of our members...I'd share the cost or even drive 4-6 hours each way to meet. He's only about a half hour away from me. I don't mind pulling him if I know he won't be with me very long - my house is pretty much maxed out right now. I tried calling the shelter but there was no answer. I'll call first thing tomorrow. |
Raquel, Nancy from Midwest OES rescue is going to look into it. There are a few rescues that are closer, they may even have room to take him in. Maybe he'll be adopted before it could even come to that point, who could resist a puppy that cute! |

Nancy's pretty busy - some intakes and her son just getting back from AK. And I may be bringing in a 4 y.o. female next week as well. |
There's someone listed on the Oklahoma rescue contact. I've never contacted them before. Maybe call or drop them a note to see if they have anyone waiting to adopt. http://www.oes.org/html/oes_rescue.shtml I was talking with Nance last night. Yeah, she's does have a few she's working on. |
I can help foster him and I bet Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue could help facilitate finding him a forever home. What's one more dog in my house? If someone could help transport him part of the way, I could meet someone between Houston and Purcell to pick him up. Please let me know if I can be of help in anyway! Michelle |

Michelle I've yet to have the shelter answer the phone so I sent an email, haven't heard back yet. I'm sure they're closed for the weekend so hopefully I will hear back or reach them on Monday. Assuming he's still there and I can get him, I'd meet you in Dallas with him next weekend if you're serious. |
Michelle, could you contact Cindy or another representative with Texas OES Rescue to see if they can take him on if you offer to foster? I did try to call them today but just got their recording. It's hard to tell if this shelter will simply turn him over to rescue or if they'll require a pull-fee and handle it like any other adoption. This shelter states there are no exceptions so it will most likely be required. Best to find out before making transport plans. Quote: Our adoption fees are $60.00 for cats and kittens and $65.00 for dogs and puppies. All animals will be spayed by the shelter before going to their forever homes, no exceptions. In the event that an animal you want to adopt is on petfinders but not altered you can come to the shelter to view this animal and if you decide you do want to adopt them you will leave a $30.00 deposit and we will have the animal altered. We will call you when the animal is ready and you can pick them up at the shelter along with their appropriate medical information and adoption papers. |
I don't mind paying the fee. I just can't foster right now. Since there hasn't been a contact of any "official" rescue in OK that I've been able to reach for a number of years, I have often just done some foster/re-homing here and there on my own. I'm not anywhere near official though. I have re-homed six on my own, and kept three rescues. Up until now I've been fortunate that I've either known OES people or people looking for an OES and the re-homing has worked out, or I've been able to keep them myself. Sadly neither of those options are open right now! But I'll still do what I can to help Max. If I can pull him and help transport him to someone else who can either foster or keep him then I'm happy to do that! |
I have sent Cindy an email with the link to his PetFinder page. I also said that I would foster him if TX OES Rescue would help with finding him a forever home. I haven't heard back from Cindy yet. I can meet in Dallas in Dallas anytime next week if someone can get him. Cindy has added me on the required paperwork so I am authorized to pull for TX OES Sheepdog if that helps and I bet Cindy could add another person to the letter as well. I'll try calling Cindy and please let me know if the shelter returns anyone's call. Michelle |
Quote: I have re-homed six on my own, and kept three rescues. Bravo! That's 9 more than I've ever fostered. Don't feel bad about not being able to bring a foster into your home... it's just not always possible or ever possible for some of us. Other things that can be done are also important... like pulling and helping to transport! Quote: I'm not anywhere near official though. It's the same work whether done by an individual or a group with a 501c3 except with individuals, the funds come out of your own pocket. You're doing the work so you're official to us! Thank you, Michelle! Very cool that Cindy added you as a representative... I makes things easier. Maybe Raquel can be added and the paperwork faxed so she can pull Max for TXOESR. If you want help with the pull fee, I can do that. |
I just talked to Cindy from TX OES Rescue and we can foster him and get him on the website. Just need someone to pull him from the shelter. I am able to meet someone in Dallas anytime preferably during the week if that is possible. If you contact Cindy of TX OES Rescue, I would think that she can add you to the letter authorizing to pull from a shelter as well as send the 501 3 C information. I was able to pull Annie and only had to pay $25. Michelle |

I'm not going to worry about the fee right now but I will contact her and do that for future use...this is a small town shelter, they surely need and deserve the fee...I think it's totally reasonable and glad to pay it. |

That's great news!! Any updates on how he's doing? Is he as gorgeous in person?!?!? |
Update: I met Michelle with Max AND <unnamed beautiful female OES from the Edmond, OK animal shelter> in Dallas this morning! We arranged our meet up for Max and coincidentally TX OES Rescue came across another in my neck of the woods and said, "Since you're coming anyway....." So Michelle should be home soon with TWO fosters...Max and YetToBeNamedGirl. * Capt. Obvious Danger wrote: Is he as gorgeous in person?!?!? Welllllllll...........he was -- is -- in pretty rough shape, but he's going to be great soon. He was matted beyond description - the worst I've ever seen. My friend who is a groomer agreed to meet me at my house and shave him down in my backyard. Max weighs less than 30 pounds and it took the two of us almost three hours to get through that coat, which was full of all kinds of tiny creatures...fleas, ticks, woodworms....He wouldn't let us come near his face with clippers so he's a little rough, but after some care, a LOOOOONG soak in flea dip, and a little sprucing up, he'll come around and be great. Also, even though the shelter's website claims the contrary...he's not neutered and he was quite <ahem> interested in YetToBeNamedGirl. And I might add, the funniest part of the whole thing was after his shave, he "discovered" himself. "HEY! Where did THAT come from? And THOSE???? And what's this thing behind me?!" It was pretty funny, wish I'd video taped that. I'm leaving Dallas and hitting the road now after a stop at my aunt and uncle's house to get a couple of conference calls in, but I'll try to upload pictures later on. |
Raquel... you're my hero |
Wow, sounds like a very busy day down there. Great job!!! |
We are home in Houston! Max and YetToBeNamedGirl did great on the ride home - in fact I think they have a "doggie crush" on eachother. We made a pit stop at Petco to buy some Flea/Tick shampoo as poor Max had a few crawling on him. So first order of business was a bath for both. We got out of the car, had a quick potty break and straight to the shower. Max was first and YetToBeNamedGirl was crying so I opened the shower and in she came. Yep all 3 of us in my shower. They both did great and I am sure Max is feeling a 100 times better now that he has a new haircut and a bath. Next order of business was to meet my gang. That went well too. Tomorrow I am meeting Cindy (TX OES Rescue) at the vet for their check ups. Hopefully they will both have good results. Max just needs to be neutered which should be happening very soon. YetToBeNamedGirl will be going with Cindy and Max will be coming home with me. I will post some pictures and will also post an update after our vet visit. Please say prayers that both are healthy and aren't Heartworm positive. A big thanks goes to Raquel for getting both dogs out of shelter and meeting me in Dallas! Over all a great day and I hope Max and YetToBeNamedGirl continue to get along with my dogs and Annie when she comes home on Friday. Michelle |
I wish I'd known about this - so sorry I didn't. I driving up to the City in a few hours and back to DFW. Then to Houston on Thursday. My car isn't huge, but I could have made it work. And my s-i-l is a retired groomer - lives in Edmond. |
Please keep us updated with Max, Yettobenamed girl and Annie!!! |
Both Max and Clara (or maybe Lola) are in good health. Both tested negative for Heartworms! YEA. Only thing they could find was that Max has hookworms which is easy to take care of. I just have to give him medicine today and then again in 2 weeks. Max weights 43 lbs -- I don't think Raquel knows how strong she really is - and they are guessing he is around 8 month old. A little on the skinny side but nothing to be worried about. He got all his vacinations today and didn't seem to care or notice when he was getting them. Clara/Lola weighs 67 lbs and they are thinking she is around 2 years old. She definitely looks like she weighs more to me when I compare her to Lulu who weighs 86 lbs and Ellie who weighs 65 lbs. Raquel and I also think she is a little older maybe 3 or 4 by her demeanor and calmness. Cindy with TXOES Rescue took Clara/Lola home with her and I think she is going to be put in a foster home on Monday. This weekend there is a big dog show at Reliant and Cindy mentioned that she might take Clara/Lola with her to work the TX/Lonestar OES Booth. I hope she does. So everyone keep your fingers crossed that she gets a home soon. She is a great dog. Not sure what name Cindy is going to pick. Max is a little on the wild side and hopefully he will be getting neutered soon and then will be available. Both dogs should be on the TXOES Rescue website in the next day or so. So far everything is going great and I hope it continues. I can no longer look at Rescuing a Sheepdog or Dogs in Trouble -- my house has reached it maximum occupancy for things with 4 legs. Bless your heart, Michelle! You have really done so much for these puppers, you and Raquel both! Thank you for all you have done!!! |
You are a true hero! |
