Have read about the grooming of OES, and i'm a bit of a clean freak myself so I kno that I would be bathing him regularly, but I have a crazy question. Im sure like all animals (and people) with long hair, it gets tangled. What do you use as a detangler and about how long does the bathing til dry take. Not that this will change my mind, but am just curious. |

Are you looking to get a puppy or an adult dog? Puppies coat easily. The texture of the hair is very soft and fine when they are young. As their coats transition they will grow guard hairs which make a coarser coat and an easier coat to keep de-matted. Depending on how long the hair is and if you're going to air dry or use a dog dryer. Air drying with a short coat can take a few hours, in a full coat over 4 hours before completely dry. I use a dog dryer myself. Right now my dogs have 4 inches of coat and it takes over an hour to dry them. As far as de-matting sprays, I'm a big fan of The Stuff. When I'm done grooming my dogs, I'll usually do an overall spritz with The Stuff and it helps to keep the matting down. |
If you intened to keep your dog in any length of coat, it is best to use a high velocity dryer. If you air dry, a full coated dog will tangle. I use 2 dog dryers & 2 fans. It generally takes about 2 hours under the dryers & fans & then another 30-45 minutes to finish drying the hard to get areas (underarms, inside of legs, behind the ears). I never use a detangler. But I do use a grooming spray. Crown Royal Formula 3 Grooming Spray. I spritz it on as I am line brushing them. |
