It's in the wee hours of the morning and I'm just catching up on post before I head to bed. I'm so darn proud of my accomplishments today that I'm gonna share! The last day of Spring/Easter vacation and I had really wanted to get some much needed jobs finished. Way back in November, my b/f and I decided to peel the wallpaper in my room. Yikes!! horrible job! The former owners must have loved to change the wallpaper every year! Worse they put each layer on the backing of the previous one. Five layers!! Worse yet, they didn't paint the drywall first but placed the wallpaper directly on the drywall. My boyfriend whom was visiting from Holland scraped some off but never finished the job before he had to return back to his home. Every weekend I would attempt to scrape glue, spackle the now gouged walls since NOVEMBER!!! It was that much of a mess. Truthfully if I knew how, I would have just got new drywall and started from scratch. Nope faithfully every weekend I would work on a little section at a time. It was difficult to see where wallpaper backing was compared to the drywall and so my sweetie- "bless his heart" gouged the walls quite badly. Everyday of my vacation I got up faithfully at 7:00 and started working and finishing usually around 1 am . I was determined it would be painted and looking good before I returned to work!! This was also being busy with lots of catchup work and time to take the dogs for long walks. Today, I did it while also preparing a Turkey and all the trimmings and kept racing back and forth...scrape walls....prepare Turkey....scrape walls...prepare veggies...take dogs for a walk...check Turkey...wash walls...prepare potatoes...paint....lol! Whee!! I even managed to visit the dog park with Panda which is something I hadn't done in a while! Where were my boys? Well one is out of town and the other was visiting relatives but expected home by dinner. I decided that I would also tackle the job of the stuck door and purchased new sliders and installing them. Hmm while I was at it...I decided to install the mirror for my bathroom that's been sitting there for months...until some day when I had time. I feel like I've run a marathon and dinner worked out great and one more coat of paint when I get up and I'll be finished!!! I'll be singing that song...I can bring home the bacon or fry it in the pan.... Okay enough boasting..I'm dead tired but feel really good all those little things that needing fixing finally got done!!! Yeah!!! Marianne |
|
Hooray! YOU GO GIRL! Way to tackle the house stuff! Why do I feel like this is going to sound like me in a couple more months? hmm...
Karen |
Marianne - You make me tired just listening to all you've done!
Congrats! After working that hard on everything, I'm sure you can stand back and just feel so proud of yourself!! Job well done! Now go get some rest!! Chris |
Way to go Marianne!
Congrats to you for sticking with it! Want to come here and finish some of our projects? They seem to be multiplying! LOL |
I got worn out just thinking about all the work you did.
You can start on my place next. The other night I awoke to hear a strange scratching sound; no, Barney wasn't chewing on one of his marrow bones. I got up and looked in the hallway to discover he was chewing a hole in the drywall. "Shame!". Out came the Bitter Apple. Hope you still had some time to enjoy Easter. |
Wow Marianne... I think I need a nap now.... |
Got projects at my house...it is much warmer in Florida ! |
Too tired to type.....
Congratulations for accomplishing a whole year's worth of projects in what seems like hours. Nap time!!!!!!! |
Hey thanks everyone for the well wishes!! |
Whew! Wonder Woman!! |
Marianne,
YOU GO GIRL! I'm trying to change the wall paper in my bathroom and I've come across the same problem. I should have learned from last year when I changed the wall paper in the kitchen. Any helpful hints?????? Where were your pups while all this was going on? I can imagine how hard it is to do all that with them following step for step. Congrats on your accomplishments! Isn't it great to sit back and see what you've finished? |
Hi,
Karen, I was actually thinking of you and your upcoming reno's while frantically scrubbing walls. I have to give you credit as you have your work cut out for you! Caullet, I was given the very best advice ever!!!! Fleecy!!! Two ladies in the paint dept raved about how well it takes off the goo from wallpaper. It's so much easier on your hands than TSP which hurts. Now my room smells fresh too. So that's the best advice I was given and it really works. Fleecy is fabric softerner available in any aisle that normally carries detergent. Ohhh boy do I feel really silly. I keep saying my comedy stuff is carrying over into my real life. Just about to finally complete the job and I notice that the window frame which is about 2 1/2 inches wide had wallpaper on it. I remove it and see.......yuck Mold!! The black kind!! Do a search on the net and read 6 different articles and find out it's highly toxic. Shudders! It suggest different ways of getting rid of it and all the articles are adamant that you must get rid of it as it will continue to grow and painting over it is not recommended as the spores continue to grow or float in the air. It causes things like serious respitory problems. I stopped painting and now have to deal with the mold on the window sill. The articles said several things ..you can try to get it off with disinfectant and water, bleach or now a new break through is supposedly dry ice which kills it immediately. I have to search where I'd find the stuff and the other two methods didn't remove it totally. I'm so glad I decided to remove that last bit from the window sill as I was tempted to paint over it as the blinds and curtains cover it anyhow. I would have never known what lurked behind that wallpaper. yuck! So I am now delayed in my final project but the good news is I found out I have another 2 days off!! So embarressed to admit I drove to work today and not one car was in the parking lot...gate was closed...ohmygosh!! It's not the 31st!! Ha ha! That mold must have caused malfunctioning in my brain...I still have two days off!! Wheee!! Marianne |
Any more tips Marianne...our new house has wall paper in every room! We did borow a steamer so that's helping...I'm so sick of removing wallpaper! |
Ummm hire a handyman? Preferably a good looking hunky type? Ahh forget that...wishful thinking on my part!
The steamer should help soften the glue. The ladies at the paint dept whom recommended the Fleecy said to totally saturate the walls...wait 5 mins soak them again and then scrap which makes it easier. I just love those ladies! While they weren't goodlooking handymen, I was just as happy to get that advice. Sheesh I need to go out more. Hee hee! A few months ago I installed laminate flooring in my rec room which was fairly large. The thought of doing so was quite daunting at first as I had no idea of how to use any power tools. I took those free courses offered at Home Depot which I highly recommend to anyone thinking of doing it. I even learned to install a sink and found unlike what I previously was so afraid of...it's really easy to do!! So I have a little more confidence now about tackling jobs that I previously thought would be difficult as I had no experience whatsoever about reno's. It was a big confidence booster. My next project is installing a new toilet as this weekend I only changed the broken chain. I'm taking my own advice and signed up for that course as well. Gotta luv those free courses! Marianne |
Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha! That is way too funny. I was just talking the other day about getting a hunky pool guy, but then that would mean that I would have to get a pool! I could only afford either the pool guy or the pool and I dang sure would rather the pool guy! My husband would probably prefer the pool..... |
I prefer men in uniform with handcuffs! |
Hi,
Well I just about spit out my coffee...thinking if someone hadn't read the start of the post..but just clicked on page 2...hee hee. Thanks for the chuckle! Marianne |
I did that! I missed the last few posts on page one and just about lost it oh my goodness! Then I went back and read more...
Thanks for thinking of me Marianne- we're onto stage 2 of new house building today- financing... scary! I'll let you all know how it goes! Might be time to start taking those classes! Karen |
Glad I could give you a chuckle...should I send some computer screen cleaning wipes? |
Yes please! |
You brought home more than the bacon you brought home the whole freaking pig. I bet your house looks nice and your glad you got it done. Makes me tired just reading about it. I have some wallpapering to do in my kitchen but I have to pry up some mosaic tiles on the backsplash of my sink first. I'm hoping they come off without gauging the wall. I hate to take them off .It was the first thing I ever tiled and I was so proud of it but it doesn't look nice with the wallpaper I want to put up.Better to show up at work when your not supposed to than mix it up the other way. I messed up my schedule one time and they called to see where I was. I happened to be in the playground that was behind the hospital where I worked with my kids. I looked at my schedule wrong. Gets confusing when you work part time and not the same days etc. |
Hi Herbgirl!
Oh poor you! Yup,can relate as I mentioned I had two more days off...turns out I had one. Oops! Worse I left a message at work to say I needed to bring in one of my pets to the vet and may be a bit late.( I had actually left the message the day before when I thought I was supposed to be in) Howeveras Marianitus is a common affliction at my work..hee hee means you forget stuff. I think my brain fogged up from so much work...the whole pig? Nah...but I'm turning into such a HAM! Marianne |
