Just thought I would update Dillons progress. He went in for his Femoral head and neck operation on Tuesday, after another xray they decided to operate on Wednesday. TheRoyal Vetinay Cambridge were fab, they updated us every morning and evening. He came home on Saturday complete with 2 sets of pain relief and a longscar and stitching. He was very pleased to see us. Now the hard work starts, because he is not weight bearing) he dosent like to put his foot down, so vets have advised massaging his leg, also 3/4 short slow lead walks lasting 5 mins per day so he learns to put his foot down. We spent all weekend trying to purchase a 12ft pool so I can get in with him to aid his recovery, but as we have had a few weeks of heatwave here in the uk all pools are sold out, but we have managed to order one online so fingers crossed it will be with us soon. The vet did say arthritis has already set in. We go back in 6 weeks time for a full check-up and to see if a further op is needed on his other leg. ( Wa surprised tha vet said he may not need another operation on his other leg??) Keep us in your thoughts guys Debsx |

that Dillon does well Debs and i really hope he doesn't need another op . Give him a hug from me . |
From Heart and Pearl!!!!! Get better soon, Dillion!!!!! |
Great news! Keeping our fingers and paws crossed that he recuperates beautifully. |
Hope all goes well for Dillon and his recovery. |
I'm glad to hear that Dillon is on the road to recovery. It would be great if it turns out he doesn't need the second operation. Would love to see pics once you get the pool. Sounds like you are doing everything possible to help your sweet boy. I am hoping for the best. |
Sending healing thoughts your way from guinness and I . As you know guinness had an FHO and is doing great (he is having trouble with the other hip soooo) Hang in there Hugs to Dillons |
Virtual hugs and sloppy wet sheepie kisses to you both. I know how hard it is to go through the recover phase as we had a TPLO done on one of our sheepies. He wouldn't stand up for a while, and then suddenly we had to try to keep him down. Once the recovery time was over he was a whole new dog. Fingers crossed that it will be the same for Dillon. Dillon is one very lucky pup to have such a great and loving family taking caring of him. |
Awww shucks guys, thanks Debsx |
All the best! It took quite a while for our dalmo to weight bear on the leg after his FHO too. I dont know if the massaging helped but he really liked it. |
Great news for Dillon. I hope for a speedy recovery and a quick delivery for the pool. Swimming will really help build those rear muscles and should also help with his other hip. Ellie had her FHO 18 months ago and so far she is doing great. She'll go to the vet in September and I will have both of her hips checked thoroughly and see where we are with her left hip. Swimming is awesome and a can be a great curse at the same time -- water and a wet sheepie who doesn't even shake the water off before coming inside is not so great. She see's no problem with it but then again that is my big goof ball Ellie. Glad to hear things went well and praying that he won't have to have another surgery. Michelle |
Hoping for a speedy recovery. |
Hugs from Maggie! |
How's Dillon doing? |
Hope Dillon has a smooth recovery! |
Hope Dillon is feeling better soon! Good luck with that pool! x |
Thanks guys! Its a long slow recovery, Dills is still very reluctant to put his leg to the floor. We do 3/4 very short slow lead walks, and it is only then that h will sometimes put the leg down. Swimming is a nono, I have to get in with him and lift him underneath and only then will he use his legs to paddle.... but with love and determination WE WILL GET THERE!! Debsx |
Debs we were just thinking about you guys over the weekend. Keep of the love and determination with Dillon. Healing takes a very long time. Sheepie kisses from Frankie and Hugs from me Lisa and Frankie |
Ahh bless your heart Lisa and Frankie:)xx |
