Was the surgery today? (some send home the same day, some stay overnight) You got a take home instruction sheet from your vet, I presume? You should have been given specific diresctions from the vet. Plan on a quiet, calm day for him. Usually they are a bit to a lot sleepy from the anesthesia. Use it, and keep the house calm and let him sleep. Water in moderation, maybe a little food tonight if he seems to want it. Ok to totally skip food, but some do better with a little bit in their tummy. Plan things to do that are calm. Not all do well crated all the time - whatever works best for your Ziggy. We never crate ours beyond the normal routine (at night), but do things that are calmer activity. Limit things that cause pressure or straining - jumping, running, pulling. After a couple days most are doing well and can resume more moderate activities. Keep checking the incision for any swelling, redness, excess bruising. Hugs to Ziggy, most males hardly notice and it's rarely more than a blip in their life. |
I would plan on a couple of days, at least a week to ten days, of keeping calm and not jumping, etc. Also, mine seemed to do a "funny" walk right after the surgery. walk, then stop and sit...I think they feel the stitches as they walk...You should ahve no problem. Follow doctors instructions, keep calm and you will get through it no time! Of course, always be aware of any swelling or oozing or anything unusual. Would mean a trip back to the Vet. Good Luck. Its usually harder on us then our pups! |
