I'm sorry your sheepie is having problems...don't you wish they could stay young forever? I would highly recommend a supplement that contains glucosamine, chondroitin, and msm in it. The glucosamine helps repair cartilage, the chondroitin helps with cartilage resiliency, and msm increases joint comfort. I currently use Sergeant's brand that I purchse in the grocery store. Is your sheepie active at all? If she is able to be active, I would put her on an exercise routine. Swimming and underwater treadmills are great for building the muscle and keeping the joints moving. Walking is higher impact, but still a good option. One other point is weight...is your sheepie overweight? Our 3 year old has hip problems and the vet told us that for every pound Oliver is overweight, it is 4 pounds of pressure on his hips. Needles to say, we keep him fit and very trim. |
Thank you for your advice. She is not really active, but when I can get her out for a walk she loves it. She has always had hip problems. Water exercise is not an option for me. The vet said there was nothing he could do and that we should not take her for walks. I don't understand. I have 2 other OES rescues (one deaf) and have had three others that passed away. My oldest was 15 1/2. I will try the supplements. Thanks again. |
We've used Adequan injections.....which we did ourselves. They helped a bit....but for a short time. http://www.arthritis-glucosamine.net/article-detail.php?ID=138 |
