Rudy didn't like him. Not one bit. And he was not shy about letting everyone know. Eventually we did manage to walk together, and sniff bums, but it was not an easy sell for Rudy. It made for a rough session. I know that you have to have bad experiences to correct behaviours, but it's still hard to see (especially since he's had so many successes). I understand that you always increase the challenge level, but it was hard separating myself as Rudy's pack leader from myself as Rudy's Mommy who hates to see him act that way. Today Rudy needed to go to the vet, for his every three week um, bum appointment . He doesn't enjoy it, but the infection is now gone so it's no longer painful and we're going to try to extend the length of time between visits gradually. HE DIDN'T FUSS, EVEN ONCE, AT THE OTHER DOGS IN THE WAITING ROOM. HE MADE ME SO PROUD. He laid down at my feet and watched two small dogs with a calm look on his face. His ears never tensed, and he never showed any interest in killing them at all. Several large dogs walked past him and he looked at them, but remained in a relaxed down position, and let them pass. While I was paying (always a trouble time as my focus is split) I had him sit, and he went down on his own. He let three more dogs go by with barely a glance. Thank you Rudy! I am so proud of you. Again the vets and the techs who were there were beyond impressed. They said they'd never seen a dog aggressive dog make this kind of progress, and in such a short time. It's nice to see all that hard work coming together. I just want a calm, happy Rudy. Good boy Rudy! |

'Atta boy, Rudy!! Tell Mommy you deserve some extra treats for such good behavior!! |
Remember you are learning too. As Rudie learns you are a calm leader then he gives up having to be so rude. for both of you. |
Very nice!!! progress is wonderful |
Tracie, I'm curious.......when Rudie is walking beside you.....you correct his staring with a snap on the leash-a quick "no-no" noise and you keep going. Why do you stop and put him in a sit when he goes beserk? It's as if you reward him by stopping your forward momentum giving him more time to get in the last bark before having to comply to you. Could you stop the barking immediately with a jerk on the leash or a back kick to his flank, whatever.... and then increase your momentum forward to where he is seriously off balance do you think that would get him out of his Satan mode quicker? I've had dogs like Rudy, so I understand what you are going thru.....just a thought. |
