Don't you hate it when they think they "outsmart" you?

Yesterday, while we were finishing the roof, Hudson and Rudy were safely tucked away in their crates. Hudson likes his a lot, it turns out. Rudy's not a fan.

They both went in just fine. Rudy barked a bit. It was hard for him. There was banging on the roof and people coming and going.

We stopped for lunch, so my husband let them both out to attend to business and then they hung out while we had pizza, and rested a little. Then it was time to get back to work. Normally everyone stays seated while I recrate the boys, but since we were about an hour or two away from finishing everybody jumped right into it. I was trying to crate them while the guys walked in and then through the house with those seventy five pound packs of shingles in their arms. Chaos.

Hudson went happily into his crate. Rudy took off in the opposite direction. The door to the balcony was open (roof access) and there's no railing, pending further construction, and he ran out. Luckily he ran back in with the person who was just entering.

My husband and I both tried to call him to "go kennel" but that's just what he didn't want to do. It was game on. I tried to scale it back and keep things calm, but all those helping got involved and tried to chase him and catch him. He loved it. With his long crazy legs he leaped from place to place, like a greased pig, slipping out of everyone's grasp.

Up the stairs. Down the stairs. Into the bedroom. Down the hall. Through the computer room. Into the livingroom. Right at the crate. Last minute swerve and back upstairs. I asked everyone to stop, but they were having fun and their hearts were in the right place. Rudy thought this was the best game ever!

I'd been holding a handful of kibble...normally, when he goes in I toss it in as a reward and to entertain him initially. I needed both hands free so I went to the empty crate and tossed it in. Rudy heard it from upstairs, and ran to the livingroom, dodging three people who were trying to block him/catch him on his way. He came whipping around the corner and ran right into his crate, where the kibble was.

8O :? :? 8O

An entire team of people trying to "help" us and no success, but THAT was all it took?!?!?!?

And we uprights think we're so smart!

Thats a funny story Tracie.
I agree they do think they are out smarting us. Everything is a game to them.
That would have been a wonderful video moment.

That's funny. And that kind of craziness always happens when you have a dozen things to do and no time!

At least Rudy went into his crate to rest after exercising.
I bet it feels great to have the roof done.

Too funny!
I LOVE that story! Now maybe you have a secret weapon in your arsenal.

With my first guy on the run, all we had to do was to remember to go to the car and open the door. Of course we'd only remember that after a few minutes of calling and chasing! LOL!
