What a loud firecracker night. Frankies sound asleep on the floor. We tried to go out for our last potty, but someone shot off a firecracker and he came running. He doesn't seem to like the noise but he's not terribly frightened by it either. Hope everyone else is calm and quiet Lisa and Frankie |

Quiet evening here. I am getting ready to make a late run into town to get party supples for tomorrows' party. Guests coming around 4pm. Storms forcasted tonight and into tomorrow - I hope they stop by later afternoon |
I gave Brick 25 mg of acepromazine last night. That knocked him for one HELL of a loop. Just gave him one diphenhydramine tonight. Will probably be bigger & more fireworks by my house tomorrow night. Will give him half an ace tablet (~12.5 mg) tomorrow evening. |
Maggie was agitated by the sounds tonight but I gave her a Composure chewable (actually 2) and it seemed to settle her down. I have alprozalam for tomorrow as I don't think the chewies are strong enough for the real deal. She didn't used to be afraid but it has grown over time. Henry was barking at the sound because he seemed to think someone was coming to interfere with his dinner. He didn't seem scared -- just on guard. |
Loud fireworks here!! Park up the street having a fireworks display. Pearl is sleeping peacefully on the tuffet. Coz is laying in a corner by the counter chairs......AND......................... heart is in the bathroom...........hunkered very close to the commode, IF could get behind it, she would...poor baby..... |
Poor Heart!!! A BIG hug from your Aunty Mim, after its all over of course. Tiggy knows how you feel she says fireworks and hot air balloons should be banned! |
Harry is on a hunger strike while there is fireworks or those sounds from the clouds. I only hope he eats and drinks tomorrow morning. MO recovers faster than Harry but only wants minimal food.....fine, we don't want her barfing it back up out of nerves. Jack is doing OK.....nose and all. Glacier is partially deaf so not nearly the basket case she used to be. We'll see about tomorrow......... |
we are on vacation in SC Guinness has always sat and watched the fireworks with us. He is such a steady dog Molly barks and tries to herd them in the sky...like she tries to herd planes. the moon and the stars She is a little crazy. |
I can't wait until the fireworks are done. My guys aren't scared but they get all excited about the noise and want to go outside to investigate (and bark, of course). |
Max does fine as long as we are with him. Lays peaceful and never reacts. If we are GONE, he is a mess. Two years ago, we were in Florida for New Years Eve. We were staying at my Dad's winter home, and had him in our bedroom, while we were gone for the evening. We heard fireworks going off, and high tailed it back home. Before we could get there, he had torn off the door jam and chewed through a place in the floor trying to get out. Poor baby! We felt so bad. When we opened up the door to the bedroom, he shot out like a cannon and jumped right into my Dad's lap. Well, as best as he can jump. We are taking him with us tonight. He will sleep in the back of the CRV while we stand close by and watch the fireworks. |
Fireworks never used to bother mine. But it seems as they get older they get more sensitive to then. I am wondering if it has something to do with their eyesight getting a bit worse. They cant' see the fireworks & can't figure out where the noise is coming from. They don't go nuts but you can tell they aren't comfortable. The crazy neighbor (actually it a really nice family except for this weekend every year) started lighting firecrackers at 1PM today. So my guys opted to go from the expens in the garage & watching what was going on in the neighborhood to the kennel. A/C is on full blast to help drown out any sounds. Also have the TV on for them. |
I have two that are afraid of them. People were shooting off the illegal ones that explode in the sky. So I opened the front door and sat on the floor giving mine treats. Darby, Maggie and Kaytee could care less... they'll eat and even go out to pee as if nothing's going on despite the colorful displays in the sky. Emma and Meesha didn't care either and slept through them. Panda and Bumble are another story. Panda is horribly scared, Bumble too but not as bad. I finally took Bumble outside with two stable dogs and got him to run and play ball at the very end. (He also got used to the Blue Angels flying over ) But there was no consoling Panda... her heart was just racing. Drooling, panting, pacing, hiding. Too bad this doesn't go on for a week so there would be a chance of desensitizing them... |
Jaci, just one bad case isn't bad at all! I tried the melatonin.......can't say it worked all that well, or any. Started with an early a.m. double dose and another in the evening. When the major noise came we turned up the TV, had a marksman competition on so the TV was also popping and neither DH or I moved for 3 hours... Finally at midnight DH went to bed and I said, "To heck with this I've got some computer issues I have to correct." (she wanted out about midnight) About 1:30 I heard Glacier at the back door (she wanted out front about midnight)......Both gates were closed.....but our July 4th Houdini did it again.....at least this time I was up and could let her in otherwise she would have broken in as she did 2 years ago. Though partially or mostly deaf, there was enough sound and flashing to scare her. The nose didn't abate here until 3:30 a.m.! It's going to be a long day today....for me! |
I gave Frankie a dose of Melatonin noon time yesterday, then again around 9pm. We also were watching the marksmen competition. Frankie dozed off on the couch and slept thru the night. It was pretty loud until about 11:00. We had the tv turned way up and the air on. Hopefully tonight is quiet. Lisa and Frankie |
