Looking for young female close to Alberta, Canada

It's been almost 7 weeks since we had to put our beautiful Molly down because of advanced cancer. She gave us 12 years of love & joy & we are now searching for another OES rescue. Ideally we would like another OES female, preferably under 3 years of age. She needs to get along with an 11 year old girl, four cats, and an very large, 4 year old male OES mix (Irish Wolfhound, Great Pyrenesse?). Three years ago this forum helped us find our current OES mix in the Edmonton pound, and I'm hopeful that everyone out there can keep their ears & eyes open once again. Dogs in the U.S.A. close to Alberta (Montana, Idaho) could also be a possibility. Thanks again in advance!

I'm very sorry about Molly :(

I never heard back from anyone I shared the following ad with... it's been a week now since the ad was posted. I don't know anything about this girl but you might write to see if she's still available, her age, whether she gets along with other dogs, cats, etc. If I find any others, I'll forward them to you.

We have an OES that needs a family with lots of room to run and play and lots and lots of love. She is very loyal, very loving. Loves kids! She is spayed, chipped and groomed. Requires committment from her parents so please think it over before you decide to adopt her, she needs a forever home. She LOVES walks, chasing squirrels and being petted and hugged. Free to the right family.
Thank you for your condolences. I have sent an e-mail, and hopefully we'll hear back. Until then, I have great confidence in this forum. The people on it are outstanding, and I'm proud to be a member.
You might want to email Margaret Trenholm. She's the chairperson of the OES rescue and the OES sheepdog owners of Canada. I talked to her when we were looking for a rescue. She did tell us that there hadn't been one in rescue in Canada (that she knew of) in a while. However, she does keep in touch with others, and if someone is available now she might be able to point you in the right direction.

We ended up working with a rescue in Florida. (So many that were closer wouldn't work with someone out of the area...including the one in Minneapolis sadly, which is where we ended up driving to to meet Rudy's plane anyway...) It was a huge expense and lots of work, but he's been worth every penny. Anyway, I'll PM you her email address. She may know of someone who knows someone....Good luck!
There is a boy in Montreal who was just pulled from a kill shelter. Try Diane Buckland since the info was passed on to her and she may know more.
I know you mentioned wanting a girl but there are two new listings in Montana-
both are special needs boys.

Baja is hypothyroid and it sounds like they're regulating his levels.
Lukas is a diabetic and requires insulin injections and a monitored diet. He's also hypothyroid.
Thanks Jaci for all your suggestions so far. The boise.craigslist's girl has been re-homed. My husband & I talked again, and yes we still have our hearts set on a girl. The two fellas in Montana look adorable and I hope someone adopts them, but we're going to keep looking for a female. I talked to one breeder in Ontario, and will try to contact Margaret in Quebec later. However, the distance from Alberta to Quebec almost as great as from California to NY. Hopefully there is someone closer so we can make a road trip and meet the new OES first. Thanks again everyone, please keep your suggestions/leads coming & I promise a story and pictures once we have adopted our new family member. 8)
I'm writing to a person who found a little female. Not sure it's an OES so I'm waiting for more information...
described as black and white. Note that she may be reunited with an owner. I'll let you know if I hear back.

Oooo... not sure what happened here, Tracie. Nancy with Midwest OES Rescue in Minnesota does place dogs in Canada IF she has a dog that matches a family. I don't know when you applied but I do know that Nancy had some difficult dogs in rescue this past year. One Nancy put into a lifetime sanctuary about a month ago due to behavior problems because his only option was this or euthanasia. I know that Paddington was a little dude that was adopted to a Saskatchewan family. :D Canada friends, please don't count out a USA rescue if you can't find your new companion in Canada.
Wow, that is weird. We sent several emails to the rescue in Minneapolis and left a phone message I believe. We never got a single response. We would have been very interested in working with them. I started all my messages with, "Do you work with people outside of the area?" and included our nearly twenty years with sheepies, including one with significant special medical needs. I indicated we'd be happy to travel to them. They never, ever responded to any of them. I got told by several other US rescues that they wouldn't work long distance, so I assumed that if the one in Minneapolis didn't respond to emails or phone messages that that was the case with them. (I also thought that a courtesy email telling us that would have been nice. I guess something got mixed up somewhere...maybe a blip or someone not passing on messages?)

It's a shame too. We wouldn't have had an issue with a harder to place sheepdog. We were in the running for a dog with a history of a bite (person) and being abandoned, who did find another home closer. And Rudy's dog aggression issues have been pretty big, but we've worked with a behaviourist for about six weeks and his progress is phenomenal. He's not there yet, but I've no doubt he will be fine.

And we ended up picking up FloridaRudy in Minneapolis anyway, during a blizzard no less, so the drive was definitely not an issue. Anyway, I'll keep all this in mind. I know that at some point we'll be looking for another sheepie, and Minneapolis is a LOT closer than Florida. I'll just have to make a bigger pest of myself in the future.
Wow... yeah, I wonder what did happen, Tracey. I volunteer for Nancy at the Midwest OES rescue in Minneapolis. But like Jaci said, I know she had some dogs with some real challenges. This weekend we are having a volunteer meeting... looks like there are A LOT of OES coming into rescue shortly...
I am so sorry Tracie. I know you are GREAT home!!
I shared what happened with Nancy so she now knows there was a problem.
Take a look a the puppy Erin posted in Idaho...
