Our first rescue

On Monday June 14th, I checked the Memphis Craigslist for OES as I do every day...and my heart jumped when I saw Candy. Her owner had passed away and his family was not able to keep her. I agreed to go get her and contacted Southeast OES rescue to come get her since I never thought my old girl Stella Blue could or would handle another dog in the house...she is 12 and the last 2 and 1/2 years she has had diabetes...two insulin shots a day. She is virtually deaf and blind and has a lot of trouble with the muscles in her back legs...but she eats, drinks, poops and give us all of the love she can muster...so we wanted her calm in her final days.

After getting Candy, all bets were off. Stella loves her and we are smitten beyond belief. She is 9 and 1/2 years old and really misses her owner but after two weeks with us she is a member of the family.
We lost our big healthy boy Max (Maxwell Silver Hammer) on August 5th of 2009 to bone cancer and our hearts were broken.

It is so good to have a healthy OES to play with and go on walks with...Candy is a pure joy. Her previous owner did a wonderful job of raising a wonderful little lady. There was no way I was going to put her through foster and then another home...she has had enough trauma and the joy she brought into our house is magnificent! She has done way more for us that we are doing for her.

This is our first rescue...Max and Stella were raised from puppies...but I can tell you this, a rescued dog is pure joy.
So meet Princess Candy of Randolph...Golightly

Flunking rescue or foster is a common condition, I did it 5 times.....?? more??
Oh my gosh... what a sweet face. She's so pretty! :hearts:
It's wonderful to hear she's fitting in with your older dog.
Congratulations!
What a cutie!!
Its fantastic that she's fitted in so well.
What a face!

It's great when you come across a new family member like that :clappurple: especially one who is so needing a new home like Candy. :D
Could Max have had something to do with this? Seems like a match made from heaven :D
made my day!!!!!! as it will so many of yours and hers. :clappurple:

Flunking foster is the bestest feeling :D
What a cutie pie!
Congrats!
Congratulations. She's beautiful. There's no sheepie joy that compares to a happy rescue sheepie's joy at a new life. Hudson and Rescue Rudy send love and sloppy wet kisses to Candy. (Especially Rudy as he's a recent rescue AND the lady who ran his rescue was named Candy.)
Congratulations! She is precious--and how wonderful that they are getting along! :clappurple: :clappurple:
Candy is a sweet little sheepie girl. I am so happy everything worked out for all of you.

My thoughts exactly!!!!! :clappurple: ((what a cutie!!))
what a cutie and so great for candy i am sure she is one happy girl ..
Congratulations on your precious Candy. She is so beautiful. Our Chloe is our first sheepie( but not last), and her owner had passed. She was just 3 years and quite the fit for two neebies. She raised us properly, lol. Chloe sends her big ole wet kisses to Candy and Stella.
Since I first posted this, our dear sweet Stella has passed away...and we thank God every day for our wonderful rescue girl. Candy has really blossomed in the last 3 weeks. Bless her heart, she always deferred to Stella and would put up with Stella's occasional grouchiness with such grace. Now she is the queen bee and is loving it! It's almost like having a different dog. I am getting a glimpse of what she must have been like as a puppy. Candy has made a terrible loss a lot easier to handle. Thank you Candy girl!
That is a happy and sad at the same time post. I'm sorry for your loss of Stella, but happy that Candy has made the transition easier.

My thoughts too. Candy is your little silver lining in the dark cloud of sadness.
So sorry for your loss of Stella, but so glad to hear that your Candy girl is helping to ease the pain.
You did so much for Stella. I'm sorry she has passed on, but I'm sure Candy gave her some good vibes these last few months.
:ghug:

I fully understand Candy coming into her own. When one of the Dynamic Duo (our first 2 rescue sheepies) passed on, her sister blossomed from the shy #2 to one full of vim and vinegar. What a change! Sounds like Candy is doing the same.
