Obviously he had a mouth to mouth with one of the other dogs, Harry I assume and Harry's canines dug their way down Jack's nose. Third tract isn't as need so one of the side teeth. |

there is a thread recently about superglue made for humans and I think someone even said that they used regular superglue years ago. |
Youch!! Poor Jack . That must REALLY hurt! I have no idea what you could use... I've never even heard of an injury right on the nose that is that big. I hope he feels better soon! |
I think that the human safe stuff is called new or nu-skin. We use it at work and it works really well. |
I've used liquid band-aids in the past with great success. On the pad of foot, so not sure if it would irritate the nose or not. Poor guy, hope it heals quickly! |
Poor Bunky! |
Back from the vet for Jack's nose. Not much can be done. After pushing the gashes back together, she decided no staples, stitches or wet bandages. She's prefer to let this heal naturally with us washing the area 3 times a day to remove puss and gunk. Antibiotics go in the front end........more cheese balls! No Panalog as it has steroids and would delay healing. I was able to get a homemade bandaid over the wide expanse which he left alone! I'll do it again as the nose is really gross. I miss him poking me with his nose in the morning, but it is just too painful for him. Even with hand feeding I have to come in low as he's very leery of anything near his nose. Poor Bunkie. |
I bet that hurts Noses do heal pretty well, so I'm sure he will be feeling better soon. |
its funny that you posted this. Tonks took a chunk out of her nose just last weekend. We were staying at a hotel in Charlotte. I went into the bathroom; everything was normal, I came out not FIVE minutes later, and there was blood all over the floor (marble, thank goodness, so easy to clean!) and in the water bowl. At first, I thought Luna had bitten her own tongue. Its happened before. I hadn't heard any fighting, so I knew it had to be self inflicted. But Luna's mouth was clean, so I went looking for Tonks.... who's entire face was bloody when I found her! I'd walked them both that morning, and it was pretty warm. I thought maybe she'd gotten a nose bleed. But on closer inspection, she has a chunk missing out of the side of her nose. She must have jumped off the bed and knocked it on the night stand, or maybe against the coffee table (we had a suite). I washed her face and held a cool damp cloth to it until it stopped bleeding. I didn't bother with a topical cream; I knew she'd just lick it off. We've had no problems since, and its healing just fine. But I know from past experiences that these types of things scar, and my sweetie's great big black nose is likely to have a pink scar once this heals. Your Jack's injury sounds pretty unusual; any idea how it happened? A cat scratch perhaps? Does he have access to cats? |
I suspect he and Harry had a disagreement. These boys are 99.9% of the time fine with one another but Jack will try to steal food/cookies and Harry won't stand for it. Harry can also play his dominance game.....shoving Jack or putting a paw onto Jack. That results in usually growls, once in awhile a dust up. Vet thought fence damage until I pointed out a puncture down below. So it's two keep and long gashes from canine teeth and a lesser gash to the side and puncture down below. We do have a stray cat in the yard from time to time, but the gashes are wide, more like dog teeth. Yeah, Tonks and Jack will have pink scar noses. Tonks will have a blob, Jack will have stripes. |
Ouch! Hope it heals up quicky. The pink scars should be interesting. . . |
Darcy's dog Panda is "Pretty in Pink" nose, I'd prefer to leave her the sole title. I find it amazing, Jack did not lick at the Bandaid but now, without cover, his tongue is doing a mightly job trying to get all the way back on his wounds....it doesn't quite make it, but he is a big help in keeping the area less ......you know, messy. I miss kissing that big black nose....... |
Our Norfolk had a nasty gash on his nose before. The black pigment will come back eventually. I can still see the scar, but nobody else seems to notice it. |
Good to know, thanks. Gashes are not that uncommon here, but this is a gash on steroids. I know I'm suppose to keep it well washed but frankly with the dried yuck on it, I can't see how deep it is. Bad Momma. |
Here are a couple of photos that I found a couple of weeks after he got cut. Even though they were starting to heal you can see how deep the gash is. |
Holy cow! That is one heck of a gash! Tonk's looked like a golf divot dug out; an oval spot where there is no longer nose. Its healing really well right now. |
The white wound skin is very distinctive. We aren't there yet, still open wound, goopy but crusts forming. I need to really wash it, but have to be careful, he growls when he's hurting. sigh. |
Granddaughter Bre's young cattledog Poppy has a nose ding too now.....must be the season. I sent this link to her as well to look at for Poppy. She's a busy 15 month old, so who knows how she hurt her nose! |
Hoping for a quick recovery! Poor thing. |
