We are getting a puppy next month and will be using our last sheepie's huge crate(kenzie has been gone 4 years now it is the extra large size vari-kennel(plastic). I have read about putting in a partition, but can anyone tell me how to do it? Like what do you make the partition out of. My hubby is a plumber so he is pretty handy with tools. Thanks so much for your help. Lisa |

I got my crate at Walmart and it came with a partition for my growing pup. It seems like something you could easily construct. It was a fold-able gate that had hooks on either side to hook into the crates sides. Having it be able to fold allowed easy access to remove and move. I'm sure you could go to walmart or petsmart and see a display to see how it looks. |
You might have to get more creative with a varikennel since the standard wire grates won't work. In a pinch, you could even just toss a cardboard box in there but he might gnaw on it a little. I would think any kind of mesh with finished edges could be clipped onto the high side grates, though. Just make sure it goes all the way down to the bottom and to the sides so he can't squeeze through and no raw edges so he doesn't cut himself. |
I only have seen the dividers in the wire crates. In the plastic Vari crates there really is not much to fasten them too. Part of the vitrtue of the plastic crates is the smooth surface inside - for safety! Can you borrow a smaller crate? get a cheap one used? I have picked them up at garage sales, seen them on Craigslist, stuff like that. |
Thanks so much all, I guess we will look into getting a smaller crate for the beginning. Sure don't want her to sleep in 1 end and potty at the other if the crate is too big . Then again I don't want to try to alter the big crate if it will not be safe for her. Lisa |
